i really hope you could adopt adult advocacy from scanlover :
http://forum.scanlover.com/forumdisplay.php?f=20
where every actress has its own thread contain link/images/news/discussion about her latest movie

We have the rules and do not post in the Announcement Section
Rules and Regulations
Do Not Upload
Cash Link and Banned links, and an added rule to cover those not on the banned list (anyone can report wrong doings)

the rules are similar, most of the members here do not speak English, and there is not a good translation page, and some do come into IRC, think they can speak English, but creates more riddles, but there is nothing stopping anybody adding comments to a thread, (I would welcome them), if it is a long thread, it can be edited

All is very welcome to join us in IRC as well, see chat button at the top, if any help is needed, we will always try to help there (edited in)

we actually have that in the Jav Idol Club section, it just isn't that active. https://www.akiba-online.com/forums/jav-idol-club.117/

maybe put the Jav discussion, maybe(if possible) put the jav idol club section with Jav Discussion to make it easier to navigate to both?

CoolKevin,

I would like to make some suggestions for the JAV torrent section. I am fully aware that making any change will be very difficult and that you may receive pushback from the posters. Hopefully what I suggest won't be too terrible!

The main problem that I see in the torrent section is that everything is posted in a single posts, and rarely in a thread of related material. It's fine to say "use the search function" but really that only can work if you already know what you are looking for. I would like to suggest that torrent's main way of being organized is by the month since this is predominantly how the major studios release material. But, just having a monthy very long thread is also pretty useless. I think there would need to be further sub groups. I can think of two possibilities. 1. by major studios, or 2. by major torrent producers. At ScanLover it was #2, but really in recent years it just meant one section for Dioguitar torrents, one for all the rest, and occassionally a section for torrents having multiple movies (Nike). Since there are so many torrents posted here (far more than at SLF) I would vote for #1 (organized by studio). So, for example. On June 1 a new thread would be created for S1, a thread for HMP, a threasd for MAXA, etc etc. The thread would be titled "JUNE 2016 HMP" Posters would just put all HMP new posts in the HMP thread. At the start of July a new thread would be posted. All older material such as reposts, etc could go into a thread labled as such and a new thread only started when it reached a certain number of posts. Or, maybe a sub forum could be created just for non-current material allowing it to be posted in the current manner, or again organizing it by studio but without any month assigned to it. Of course there might be debate as to which studios get their own thread. Clearly there would also need to be a monthly thread for the smaller studio releases all grouped together. I hope this is making some sort of sense!

The nice thing about this is that all the new material would be grouped and easy to browse through. One of the frustrating aspects of the current arrangement it that it's quite difficult to tell new from old material by a simple glance. Currently one must open a post and hope the date is there. It often is not and then it takes a further search at DMM or somesuch.

I know many of the posters will howl if you ask them to translate. So, perhaps taking it step by step is the way to go leaving that in the possibly too hard basket. The organization I'm proposing ought not to slow anyone down very much. I think it would be a lot easier to navigate.

Many thanks for considering this!

The torrent section could improve much more like SLF boards. There they had monthly thread where all videos lets say for this month are posted in a thread. I always find that extreme useful. As for the adult advocacy board, I was hoping we can have something similar where members can post news on their fav stars. It might not be much but it is always helpful to know new things about the av idols that we idolized

suggestions are never terrible, I have no idea how to set up things like that, but possibly can be done, (I would not trust myself either, lol)

so what happens at the end of every month?, (that could be why I was confused at SLF)

been saying I will work on the translation thing for a long time, and will set up a posting guideline as well, (currently I have PC issues as well, so not here as much as I would like at these times)

first of all Great Name

news on your fav stars, we have a JAV Idol Thread here, that should cover the chat on current issues, and new releases etc, and general chit chat, what also maybe a problem, that some may have posted in the wrong section, so it is harder to find, if you do find something wrong, please report it, report button is at the bottom of the post, and almost in the centre

what possibly should happen, JAV discussion, should be moved the the JAV section

At the moment, we do not have any JAV mods, please do not blast us with a list of mods now, lets us try to catch up what is going on first, we are set in our ways of doing things, and it does sort of work for us

Hi CoolKevin,

At the end of each month nothing happens except that the previous months threads get pushed down naturally when a new thread is started. So, say for example that a thread was started that had a title of "MAY 2016 HMP" During the month of may all new HMP posts would be added to that thread. On June 1 a new thread would be created***: "JUNE 2016 HMP" The threads would exist one on top of the other (unless somebody posted a comment in the old thread bumping it to the top. I don't think that would be a problem at all as the new thread would easily be visible and would naturally move to the top as soon as a new post was made. As best I can tell this wouldn't take any reorginization of the board other than to post rules on how things would work at the start of whatever month this idea might be tried. Probably moderators would need to move certain posts into the threads until posters got the hang of things.

I've been thinking a lot about whether it is better to do this by studio, or by torrent maker. By studio might involve too many threads. By torrent producer would probably mean fewer threads. Either way seems better than what is currently happening. Maybe others can leave opinions on this. If you decide to try something new new I'd be happy to help out if you need additional help in the section.

***at SLF sometimes the new thread was started by a moderator, but more often a poster would just start the thread and everyone else would then add their posts to that thread. It all worked quite smoothly for many years.

AO already has its own Direct Download and Torrent categories.

Start with a forum category geared to image based posts (limit the image per post to 5 or 10 like SL) with a structure similar to the Asian Angels category and its subcategories.

Why limit images per post to 5 or 10? If you look at oneclickchicks forum, some posts with 30 or 40+ images per post, it appears messy.

A long time ago... it was just before Web 2.0 (quiz, how many of you even know/remember what Web 2.0 was?) I had a successful (defined by unique visitors and page view etc stats) web site and also I unceremoniously closed down (also gave a 1 week notice) due to ... well... I just got tired of running it.

That experience taught me a lot: you can't build a website/community just by throwing up a perfect structure and expect it will come alive and thrive. A community depends on contents contributors who are in reality selfless servants and brain-damaging drone work. Here a bit of a problem is that there are structure builders (@CoolKevin and @chompy) and there are content contributors (@Yipman , @tentenkoko etc) but it's not clear they are interacting enough. And then here in AV discussion we (@jugulear , @Supmop etc) talk alot but it's like we are also isolated from those two groups.

The problem with @201flyer suggestion is to encourage enforce the torrent/DD posters to play along. So someone like a supermoderator either has to punish the non-compliant posters, or manually move the posts into proper (by month + studio) threads. It would only work if @201flyer get in touch with the top posters (>50% of the posts) and get them all on the same page and make this the "mainstream" practice for at least a couple months, then say a new posters arrive and see that everybody does it this way and he will automatically follow the pattern.

Or... as I said, a supermoderator has to do this drone work for quite a long time to establish and even to maintain the ground rules.

IMHO, a forum is simply a weird way to get my AV and hentai and media downloads. I follow the daily or weekly new releases from all studio (with or without any torrent and/or DD links) from various blogs or database (I have a favorite one database, but there are so many highly similar choices). Every week I check the new release once or twice or four times, averaging out to maybe 20-30 minutes a week. 'cause it takes my eyes about 2 seconds per vid to reject 90% of them (just from the thumb-size cover image; but the icon-size image on AO sub-forum view is too small to make that decision) and then for those 10% non-rejected, it's another 10-30 sec to go over each per-vid page (with standardize data and frame images)

There's no log-in, each new release is presented in a highly visible and consistent format (of course they are all rip from the same source DMM). And dead easy to one-click to any actress-, studio- or genre- centric aggregates. For the actual torrents, sometimes these sites isn't enough, then I take the DVD code to kat.cr or even Google. And pretty much I get everything I need faster than logging on to AO, browsing the right sub-forum and/or searching the posts. For hentai, anime and Hollywood films, I also visit other sites/search engines for faster, more comprehensive and consistent result.

No I'm not knocking AO at all. Given that there are enough users who prefer to use a forum for sharing downloads, these's a reason AO exists and even thriving. Clearly certain things are working well, so well perhaps there's not much room to do minor tweaks and finetuning. But there are many many people (myself and many other) who don't ever go to the torrent/DD sub-forums. And ... really I don't see how any minor or not-so-minor changes to the forum can ever fix that.

So I'd say, leave well enough alone. It's not perfect, not by far. But instead of talking about changes here, why not do it and show it? Like @CoolKevin said, the structure is all there, the existing rules are fine. Someone could just start posting torrent/download based on his idea how to organize
We have the rules

A lot of the "suggestion" doesn't require any more structure, it just waiting for contributors to put in contents. Another example, there's no point to make a new forum and rule to limit pix per post to 10 if we are not steadily getting image-based posts.

As to the structure builders, my humble suggestion is to get more help: recruit the top contributors (e.g. I nominate @jugulear ) to be moderators, grant them mid-management power and responsibility. They would help with the day-to-day drone work of sub-forum management. E.g. by making better use of sticky threads.

You know, there is 1 thing that miss from this subforum (jav discussion),
"A Lounge Thread" and stick it.
Where someone could ask a simple question without creating a thread for it.

For instance,
Instead of making thread like "Does this girl retired?" , they could just ask it on Lounge Thread,

if that is a riddle then I did not understand it,
now as a serious question, there is the JAV Idol section you can ask, no point in asking in threads that not many are going to look at it, the lounge area is designed for introductions

I thought the forum structure was very confusing when I started actively participating. I'm mostly interested in JAV and various JAV stuff was (and still is) all over the place. It's split in:
-18+ discussion
-JAV discussion
-Adult discussion, seems a lot of JAV threads are here too

...scrolling down
-Torrent station
-Fetish torrents, most censored stuff could go there one way or another, how does one know
-Direct downloads
-Fetish downloads, again same as above

...scrolling down
-Request JAV Torrents
-not used but another thing to get your head around

...scrolling down
-JAV Idol Club Forum
-general JAV Idol Club, again full of stuff for other subforums, mostly JAV Discussion or JAV Idol ID identifications
-JAV Idols, seems fine but one must dig deep to find it
-JAV Idol Groups/Themes, I think nearly noone knows what this is for and as such is unused
-JAV Idol Requests & Identifications, all fine. Again, seems a lot of people post stuff elsewhere before they find these particular subforums, or maybe it's not clear enough for people not good in english to realize which is which
Not so long ago there was another unused section for ID requests, requests and such but was thankfully removed.
____________________________________________________________________
I'm not saying this structure is wrong but for new users (especially, for some others too probably) it's confusing. And unattractive for me if not anyone else. I think it'd be great the whole forum would be split for interest groups, like:
JAV Discussion (main forum)
-General JAV (sub1)
-JAV Idol Talk (sub2)
-Downloads (sub3)
----Torrent DL (sub3sub1)
----Direct DL (sub3sub2)
----Pictures DL (sub3sub3)
----Download Requests (sub3sub4)
-Identification Help (sub4)
-everything else(sub56789...)

As I don't think restructuring the whole forum is a sensible option I'd say just having links in the JAV Discussion (in 18+ section) to all the other relevant and active subforums/stations would help with finding your way around. A sticky thread at the very least? But fake subforums that straight up send you to the desired section would be better. And some additional info about what to post in each section, think you have lots of work with moving ID request topics if nothing else.

if there are posts for downloads in discussion, please report it

we are going to be looking at the structure, just waiting for the dust to settle down a bit, then we can look at it

Well, it's not only to ask the news about an idol,
you could maybe ask something like "Hey, is there any new exciting sites that I need to check out" ???
It's basically a place to chill out, well that is just a thought

really do I have to spell it out,

Pick any Idol you want, in the Idol or JAV Idol section, if there is a thread for her, take Yuko Ogura (my avatar), if you go to her thread, you can ask if she has retired, or when her next film/photo shoot is out next, and even discuss if her husband can take pictures of her, or ask how her son is doing,

as for other sites yes they are discussed as well, and even more info in IRC, about anything and everything, even questions about in here

I agree with this. Move the "JAV Idol Club" into the "JAV Discussion" section (or vice-versa), or better yet just merge them together (there are less than 4 pages worth or topics in there anyway).

I think most people head straight to JAV Discussion to talk about JAV themes or actresses, and most don't even know about the individual idol threads, or don't post there due to lack of activity. Bringing them into the JAV Discussion would consolidate all JAV related topics into one place making things more organized and promoting more discussion.

this may be a good idea but it seems to me that some of the most popular threads here in the JAV Discussion sub-forum are not Idol based but theme based. things like yo i like Idols that look like this, lets talk about that or i like this genre of JAV lets talk about that. both types of threads (you started a popular thread about lolis with one of those formats and i post a lot in a popular thread with the other format) have a lot of views and reply's. i'm not sure that merging the Idol club stuff here would bring more activity to idol based threads. it may but i think that the type of threads i outlined would still always be on the first page. people like talking about the themes they like more then individual idols. the first page of JAV Discussion seems to bear that idea out. maybe make a sub forum for it here in the 18+ Discussion forum? that may put more eyeballs on it but the other sub-forums in 18+ Discussion are no where near as active as JAV Discussion.

Its true that most topics in JAV Discussion are theme based, but that is exactly the problem. I'm sure there are many people (me included) that would love to start/have discussions solely about their favorite idol, strangely enough there already is a place for that it just happens to be pretty much dead.

If you look at the Junior Idol section, their main section is where "themes" and general Jr Idols stuff is discussed. Then they have a subform for individual idols which seems to have a healthy amount of discussion in comparison to the JAV counterpart. I feel a similar (by which I mean exactly the same) approach for JAV would be beneficial for individual idol talk while at the same time keeping theme/general discussion front and center.
