Uh...I thought studios went from ABC-999 as a DVD code to, like, DEF-001 when they reached 1000 titles? Takara Visual went from SPRD-999 to SPRD-1000.

I think its different for each studio. e.g. Madonna went from JUC to JUY

I prefer studios use 4 digits or more for their code, so they can use the code for much longer time, but many studios use 3 digits

Alice Japan and MAX-A seems still using 4 digits code

I don't think there's any reason studios need to stop at 3-digits nor are there any specific requirements for three letters beforehand.
