Edit: Upon further analysis ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) the greater immersion seems to be due to the fact that the FOV is more "zoomed in". Perhaps that's where I've been going wrong.

I also have cardboard... and yea the rift offers a way higher quality and immersive experience. Cardboard basically just gives you an idea what VR is like. I would hope so since rift costs $600 more
.I use Deo VR Player. Its a new player that just came out a couple months ago and its already the best (way better than something like whirlgig or virtual desktop). The gui and controls are perfect (I use XB1 controller) and has every setting you would want to adjust (tilt, height, ipd, zoom, ect). Even has some nice features I didnt know I wanted. Yea, it has an option to mirror to desktop (distortion free) which is great for capturing, also you can have it disabled if you dont want people to know you are watching vr porn lol. and its free...

So many mysteries, in loli-land...)

KUNK seems to be making panties on the head a theme, Shizuku Kotohane looks great with it. I've seen it elsewhere, I like cute underwear but super hero films are usually weird.
As for the photoshop, it's a basic advertising strategy, though basically every picture from Japan seems to have at least some filter enhancement stuff.
