An epic in every sense of the word, the first part of the major Chinese television drama Three Kingdoms now arrives on DVD. With a budget of over 100 million yuan, the ambitious 95-episode drama adapts the entire Romance of the Three Kingdoms novel from beginning to end, with a focus on legendary characters Cao Cao, Liu Bei, Zhuge Liang, Zhao Yun, Sun Quan, and Sima Yi. Directed by Gao Xixi (Shangjai Bund), the series has an all-star cast led by Chen Jianbin (Confucius), Lu Yi (Seven Swords), Peter Ho (Wind and Cloud), and Ruby Lin (Sophie's Revenge).
距今一千八百多年前，古老的中國大地上……
此時的中國已經歷過“漢”帝國的輝煌，社會文明已達到相當高的程度。然而，宮廷內部宦官與外戚的鬥爭就像兇惡的病魔一般，一百多年來都在死死 糾纏著漢帝國的命脈，幼小的皇帝只能作為傀儡；而擁兵自重的地方諸侯也在急劇地擴張各自的軍事力量；在民間，天災連年，苛政橫行，人民也生活在水深火熱之 中……就這樣，延續了四百多年的漢帝國政權岌岌可危，巨大的動蕩眼看就要來臨了——而這一輪即將來臨的將持續一百餘年的亂世，便是一直被傳頌至今的大傳奇 時代——“三國”。
從東漢末年群雄割據，到官渡、赤壁大戰後三國鼎立，再到司馬篡魏後天下歸晉的整個過程，肯定了以“人”、以“仁”為本，治理天下首先要聚攏人 心的思想；弘揚了精忠報國、顧全大局、胸襟廣闊、英勇無畏、堅韌不拔、重信重義等中華民族優秀的意志品質和精神傳統；展現了人文哲思、軍政戰略、內外策 謀、兵法陣法等中國文化中博大精深的文化和智慧；洋溢著壯闊雄渾、頂天立地的浩然正氣。
全劇以“董卓進京、曹操刺董”開篇，歷經了“諸侯會盟伐董卓”、“貂蟬獻身除國賊”、“群雄逐鹿奪徐州”、“官渡大戰爭北方”、“火燒赤壁定 三分”、“三國鼎足各蓄力”、“彝陵之火蜀敗亡”，直至最後“諸葛司馬爭兵鬥法”這一系列情節段落。全劇在忠實原著、融合史實的基礎上，將龐雜浩繁的素材 加以精練、剪裁，使得整劇結構勻稱、緊湊，呈現出一種一氣呵成、緊鑼密鼓、跌宕起伏的面貌，其連貫性、緊湊性、戲劇性都達到了一個新的高度。
