I know you're trying to encourage him ("there's light at the end of the tunnel" talk), but what you've claimed assumes that people must (and do) pair up until all available partners are taken. And even a young child knows that's not true. The positive thing is that there are as many women as men on the planet so the drought will end.
Now sure, as children we never thought to ourselves "incest maybe?" when we learned that a brother and sister in their 30s, neither wed, are living together on their own; and we never thought "lesbian incest maybe?" when we learned that two sisters lived together and grew old together their entire lives, neither ever marrying; etc. So sure, I'll admit that there are a lot of people in this world who we mistakenly write off as "single for life" but who actually have lifelong partners -- and we just never hear about it. But even then, I'm still pretty confident that a good chunk of the human population is old enough to have a sex partner, willing to have a sex partner, and still doesn't have one nor will ever get one outside of hookers and short-lived relationships.
For some people, it's an issue of having standards that the rest of the planet says are "too high." For others, it's an issue of being "unmarriageable", be that because of their looks or their personality. And then you've got some people, like many young Japanese women -- what's the figure they're reporting now? isn't it something around 1 in 4? -- who are single and say they are not looking for marriage at the present time but instead would prefer to continue to enjoy the liberties that come with being somebody's girlfriend or casual sex partner and not his spouse. My point is, when you've got a lot of available, attractive women in the world these days who are saying "Not only do I not want to be your girlfriend, but I don't want to be any man or woman's girlfriend!", the argument that "there's a girl out there for each of us" falls apart pretty damn fast. There are ~52% females ~48% males iirc (give or take a couple percentage points for each country), but it's not like Joe Average is going to pick the bearded lady, the woman with no face, or the terminal HIV patient in hospital wing #4 over sticking to his porno videos.
Sorry for my cynicism, but ... your optimism struck me as perhaps dangerously misleading.
