JAV covers a lot of ground (for example, the wildly imaginative or crazy ROCKET scenarios are of the kind that would not easily be found in Western porn), but the primary attraction for me was this sense of "reality."
I like JAVs with some bite. There is a lot of bite in Western porn (and by "Western," I primarily mean American; some European porn is more successful, in this regard, as well as being JAVvier in general), but... they just can't get it right.
(Most of the bite comes in non-story situations, the gonzo style porn where the men act as brutes, and the women are often anal-ized. That's not the kind of bite I'm talking about.)
One of the few ways they get it kind of right are in the output that one may find in sites such as "Clips4sale," that is, made by the tinier operations... such as some produced by "Primal Fetish" or "Taboo by Primal." For example, there was one I caught recently from the "Spankbang" tube site that was entitled, Beautiful Mom Trapped in Her Own Home, starring Cherie Deville... it was fairly JAVvy. I guess the big studio variety is afraid of arbitrary obscenity prosecutions, and that's why we get a lot of stupid American porn where the women throw themselves at the men. (That's one possibility for the cause, anyway; the other is that the porn-makers are untalented, or idiots.)
Anyway, I came across one that sounded refreshingly, and promisingly, JAV-worthy:
I Blackmailed My Stepmom
(Starring Alexis Fawx, Olivia Austine, India Summer, Cherie DeVille, Dava Fox and Mercedes Carrera.)
The "blackmail" gimmick (a very common staple in story-oriented damsel-in-distress JAV) is rare in American porn, not to say this element is not utilized now and then. Whenever it is utilized, you can almost count on the turn to stupidity, with women quick to throw themselves at the men.
When I ran into this title, I thought, FINALLY! They made a point of the "getting the woman over a barrel" notion, and even if they get the execution wrong, how wrong can they get it? So I downloaded the movie...
... And now I've got to tell you just how close it came to reminding us of JAV.
I just dug up the cover now, as I'm writing this... to offer you a little pictorial relief:
Holy COW! If I had seen this cover earlier, I may never have sought this movie out.
The movie is from EVIL ANGEL (their description page for this movie, released only a week ago), which is actually not a bad thing, as this studio sometimes tries harder. Yet what does that cover tell us? The main attraction are the two blondes, one with the obvious balloon breasts (groan), and they are sporting happy-go-lucky smiles, giving the idea there is not going to be any grit, whatsoever... and the odds are, this is going to be just another stupid American porno.
(Yeah, we get the two shots at the bottom of the front cover, where the actresses are feigning outrage and surprise... but I don't buy genuineness in either case. Can these phonies make it any easier to let us know, Hey, people! This is all for laughs.)
As with the cover, after the fact, I am reading the "plot" descriptions, and one of them goes:
"Buddy Hollywood discovers porn video of his bodacious stepmom, busty, big-assed blonde Olivia Austin. He whips it out to jack, but the shocked stepmom catches him in the act. The shameless guy aggressively blackmails the blue-eyed, puffy-lipped slut into blowing his big boner. More flattered than shocked, she goes down for a long, wet, filthy-talking hand job/blow job."
"More flattered than shocked" ?? You mean... it's going to take three seconds, rather then two, before she throws herself at him?
Well... it is American porn, and that means we must accept some stupidity, and hope for some nuggets of effectiveness among all of the stupidity. But this movie turned out to be... absolutely outrageous.
You know how the filmmaker handled this affair? After the predictable "throwing themselves at the men" in three seconds, the actresses looked into the camera and directed their porn patter, as though the viewers were right there!
(I could not watch carefully, as I felt too disgusted, but only in the India Summer POV segment did it seem she was speaking to her stepson, rather than directly to the viewer.)
So they not only "broke the fourth wall," which is a no-no in movies (we only see this happening with rare comedies), but they went out of their way to kill any sense of reality, whatsoever.
I don't know who this "Kevin Moore" is, except that EVIL ANGEL must regard him as a hot commodity, given the way they splashed his name on the cover, as though he must be some Alfred Hitchcock... but whoever he is, he presents the greatest argument for bringing back tarring and feathering.
What does this say? Do American porn-makers really have this much disdain and disrespect toward the intelligence of their patrons? (And pirates?) Or are most porn-viewers hopelessly retarded (oops! You can tell I'm upset, for using what is now such a politically incorrect word), that they actually enjoy and even prefer this sort of thing? (I fear that may actually be more the case... sigh.)
Another movie came up with the keyword "blackmail," and that was for The Stepmother 9, from 2012. I happen to like the sexy main star, Kimberly Kane, so that was another reason to take a stab at what was sure to be another disappointment. In this movie's favor, the outfit behind it ("Sweet Sinner") at least went for "real movie" production values (as we may expect with many JAVs), and made an attempt to tackle the story seriously.
So when the stepson discovers his father's fiancée had a salacious past, Kimberly is the one who goes into attack mode, crying, "Fuck you! What do you want, money? You want me to fuck you now?" (oh! Good of you to bring that option up, Kimberly), to which the "kid" replies, "Nooo... I just wanted the truth. That's it. Just the truth." Kimberly then takes complete command of the situation by saying, "Don't you walk away from me. I'm going to tell you what you're going to do..."
I'll give you one guess as to how many seconds it takes after that before she throws herself at him.
