What causes the (slow) death of uncensored JAV studios?

Why couldn't uncensored JAV studios stay afloat? How much does piracy affect their downfall?

I have been watching JAVs since the early 2000. If I think about it, uncensored JAVs are actually not that good on average but there are certainly some gems.

Some of the uncensored JAVs back then have plots like the "Chief Inspector Marano Hitoshi" series. I saw that they became more and more basic and changed their strategy into investing in better production value and actresses.

Why don't you see major stars doing uncensored anymore? If you look at the old stuff you can find many videos from big names like Yui Hatano and Hibiki Ootsuki.

What's weird is that I knew Yui Hatano and Hibiki Ootsuki from their uncensored days. I found out much later that they also did censored.

JAV is dedicated for Japan market, while uncensored videos are now allowed on Japan they have to find world wide market, while JAV censored is sold mostly on physical DVD's uncensored is sold as digital material, so its easy to access uncensored materials without paying than JAV, Uncensored Productions do not earn like Censored.

There are still good and active productions like FC2 PPV, Caribbeancom, Japanhdv,Erito, 1Pondo.

FC2 vids are amateur vids. Japanhdv just resells old uncen. vids. Caribbeancom and 1Pondo are practically in life support nowadays.

Still uncensored content can be found on them amateur or not. They also have implemented world system pay for account to view all videos, while on JAV you pay for specific DVD. One user can buy up to 10 videos while on uncensored websites 1 user can view all their content and share.

I'm fan of uncensored videos and but i accept that its dying breed .

Lets hope in near future mosaic removal will be improved so we see some good quality videos uncensored.

Certian FC2 sellers are upping the game. Good camera work and even group sex. Even if the actress wears a mask it's filling the hole of uncensored for me.

IPPA has also clamped down hard on actresses/agencies that tangle with uncensored production. This is why we see little to no crossovers anymore.

Someone I know told me there are essentially three tracks of girls: the agency girls (censored), the girls that work with Caribbean and similar sites ('pro' uncensored), and the many FC2 amateurs. You sometimes will see an FC2 amateur make a proper JAV debut, but after that she probably won't *openly* be doing uncensored anymore.

It explains why Caribbeancom and 1Pondo resale old videos too. I think the last known enough actress who did uncensored was Sumire Mizukawa (as Emiri Momota).

It's sad for those studios, I started to watch JAV with uncensored videos and they were among the studios I enjoyed the most. Hot girls, good set, good camera work.

I think it has been mentioned before, big name studio stars aren't going to risk getting blacklisted in Japan nowadays if they do uncensored stuff.

Censored studios have an office which means they pay some form of tax or at least spend money in Japan, whereas uncensored studios are located outside of Japan. So if I were a censored studio losing money and my stars to uncensored sites, I'd do or get the authorities to do something about it.

Plus as noted by others the market for censored is Japan. So why risk undercutting your main source of income by doing uncensored vids that will be pirated anyways.

Shit I still see old guys renting adult vids (I'm in Japan). JAV idol meet and greet events, buying real merch = big money. Then you got private photo sessions with JAV stars if you want, money there. JAV stars moonlighting in soapland or other sex business, big money.
Working in hostess clubs gets you big money. Therefore risking getting blacklisted is not worth it.

At first there was novelty and they got some good/famous actresses. Now though the internet is full of uncensored porn, huge back catalogue of their own work... The quality dropped off very rapidly too, after the first couple of years they stopped putting any effort in, no costumes or sets or interviews or scenarios.
