The android app still has problems. Still requires periodic authentication. Downloads for offline viewing rendered useless without WiFi to authenticate.
Can you fix it so it works like it's desktop counterpart. Anything more than first time and repeated authentication is overkill and makes it a bad app.

Oh and now I can't watch any videos I've purchased and downloaded for the previous reasons because the sites gone down and I can't even sign in the android app. So the only solution is head to a pirate site to download a DRM free version.

Sorry to hear this but we do not see any server downtime and the site seems to be working fine. what kind of error did you see?

Could you please confirm that you are using the latest version of the app? The login should be done only once (at least you are login to multiple apps at same time)

Confirmed latest version apk 1.05.2 and I get the same results when I try it on a tablet and another android phone.

Screenshot_20181213-070533_RPlayer[1].png
First image shows frequent interruptions when downloading even though connection is fine.

Screenshot_20181213-070951_RPlayer[1].png
Now at this point I have already logged in the app downloaded authenticated drm and played the video a few times already.
I turn off wifi to test if DRM authentication is required each time to play a video well the screenshot speaks for itself.

Screenshot_20181213-071248_RPlayer[1].pngAnd finally I test a last case where I have already logged in at least once authenticated downloaded video at least once and played at least once.
As soon as I lose the WiFi or if I lose the app to android activity suspension when it loses focus I'm locked out.
This confirms that this app requires a WiFi on at all times and that authentication is required each time a video is played.
If this is by design then it makes downloading videos pointless.

You guys should take a look at the netflix app to see how it's implemented. I only ever have to sign in once can download videos and watch them in situations when there's no
WiFi.

Screenshot_20181213-075201_RPlayer.png And this just happened just as I went to play a video after logging in. Got booted to the login screen.

TLDR If you're going to implement DRM do it right or you'll just alienate your customers.

Thank you for the screenshots, this will help us to investigate about the issues as this is not suppose to happen.
I sent you a private to find out more.
Sorry for any inconvenient.

On the subtitles; I'd suggest subbing a dozen or so of the most popular moves you can get permission for and just releasing them as separate video files with hardcoded subs. If you do a cheap pilot project like this you can gauge interest and scale up until you feel updating the software is worth the money.

If you plan a big bang with 2000 movies subbed every month and all the player software updated to use text subs you'll never actually do it.

Im not agree with this.
Very very low amount of people pirate content in Japan. (any content, Hollywood movies etc).
They are more honest and pay for other works.

I'm actually very thankful to the whole R18-Team that they make JAV available for non-Japanese coustomers - and thery're even publishing 99% of the titles nearly at the same time as in Japan! Being in love with JAV since >15 years now, things have never been so easy. Honestly, thank you very much R18!

That's why I gladly pay for all the content I'm watching since r18 is around. Some years ago, for some titles there was no other option but pirating.

Also, after having met JAV-Actresses in real life, I realised even more that these young girls are doing a good job and they're deserving all the money they're working so hard for. That's not meant to be a sleazy joke.

You like young, cute girls doing JAV? There's an easy way to make em do it: pay for JAV.
Please do not pirate. Consider whether JAV is worth something to you, and yes: every single person matters, on both sides of the decision.

What I actually intended to write when acessing the forum today: A "skip 15 seconds" - "go back 15 seconds" button and a "frame by frame" button in the r18-Player would be great. And I'm still waiting so badly for the VR content to be enjoyayble with HTC Vive/real VR gear instead of card board smartphone holders. Pleeease R18 (^_^)

sorry but I refuse to support drm in anyway. Pirates are not effected by DRM at ALL. Every release is ripped in HD within minutes. Real customers are then abused with the terrible drm-spyware infesting their computer.

Also the girls get a flat fee and no money paid back based on sales. They get a tiny fraction of the profits. The rest go to the horrible companies that support drm for their paying customers. I hope r18 is forced to remove drm or shutdown.

Support stores like duga.jp that sell drm-free videos when the studios allow them. Something r18 has said was "impossible" but clearly another lie.

In this particular case at the moment DRM does not even protect the video from being copied:

I can confirm that these sad encoding settings are true (but who I am to trust me).

broadbandz: studios really don’t care too much about DRM. It’s more of a platform decision. Studios concern is to make good content that sells. While the word “DRM” is used in Japan, it’s often known as “copy guard” and if a platform asks their studios if they want “copy guard” for their content (who mainly are staffed with people who aren’t that tech-savvy), who would say no to that?

Actresses get paid a flat fee, sure, but that’s not just limited to JAV; it’s pretty much the standard across all entertainment both in Japan and the west. Only some really big names can demand and receive royalties (think casts of top-rated sitcoms, A-rank Hollywood actors, etc.). Royalties are great, but I fail to see how a one-day contribution for filming a title should lead to endless recurring payments. That’d be an accounting nightmare and few studios could afford that on top of the thousands (USD) big names already receive for a day’s work.

Sorry for going off subject, but those are my thoughts on these issues.

Royalty is often used when the producer is cash strapped (obviously for upstarts but also very often the case for big budget production) and wants to use future income to pay for the "one-day contribution" so the writer, actor etc might accept a lower-than-market pay plus a small percent of future sales. No one suggesting royalty on top of fair salary.

This was the same way Bill Gates got a lot of workers to accept sub-minimal pay plus stock option way back in the early days of Microsoft.

Unlike the West, Japan (and most East Asians) are not in habit of borrowing against the future, a producer's responsibility is to come up with upfront funding, plus habit of many JAV actress prefer a bird in hand over two in the bush, royalty doesn't make sense for JAV.

But I wonder if FC2 is going to shift the ground from underneath the industry.

We have released a new update of the R Player for Android. This should fix any issue to play movies offline.

Not quite.

You might say, that's national debt... well, how about private debt?

Yep pretty sure that's still East Asia. ;)

Well we are way way OT now, my point is simply that Japanese entertainment productions (including JAV) are mostly funded upfront and there's minimal practice of royalty to complement salary. Most often the person most in debt is the performer him/herself. As some of them owe money to the studio/agency for cosmetics, training classes, studio fees etc.

I know you are just being fastidious and not seriously in a debate mood. So I will let you off ;)

Also remember R18 owns quite a few top studios. Yet they say they would love to offer drm-free but the studios wont allow them to sell it that way. Quite the corporate double speak. Since the top studios set the trend and are the exact same people.

Also it's a complete lie since other studios do allow drm-free on duga.jp while r18 forces it on every release.

Also remember you dont own any content even after paying 30 bucks for a title. Many actressses are pulling titles now after 5 years.

I have spent 200 dollars on HD copies of Risa Shiina's videos that are now gone from my drm-locked library forever. Essentially stolen from me. And no I didnt buy the stream option. I bout the HD download option. That is no gone forever. And r18 is extremely rude in chat and tell me to go to the manufacture to complain.

I will say r18 is right up there with comcast as the worst company I have ever dealt with. And that is saying something. I rarely complain or a bothersome customer.

When happens at least offer a coupon or rebate or something. I didnt even want a full refund. But just got completely shit on by the support people. I will now spen all my energy telling everyone I know to stay away because of your horrible customer service an attitude. Blaming literally everything on the customer or someone else.

I'm no big fan of DMM/R18 myself, but I would say a few things to their defense. (if I'm correct)

So DMM is under "legal" obligation to stop serving the video after an ex-actress withdraw her vids. It seems counter to common sense if "HD Download" "product" are also affected, assuming all the video data is already on your own storage. If I guess correctly the player is accessing DMM server to authenticate your ownership of the video before letting you play the vid that (you think) you own. Somehow, some legal "genius" must have decided the authentication of ownership is equivalent to circulation so is covered under withdrawal.

So your problem doesn't come out of commercial greed (as with Comcast) but out of a conflict between JAV actress's "legal" right and end-user's "ownership", and DMM is just in between doing what they are supposed to do, legally. Even in the imaginary world that each side come with good lawyers and legal resource, I imagine it will end up a hot pile of legal mess.

Ultimately it comes to WHY you or anyone wants to buy legit JAV. (1) can't access piracy, (2) wish to comply with the law, (3) wants to support actress and content producers. If you are (3) than the best practice is to pay for some "products" from DMM/R18 and get your vids from piracy. If you are (2) then either you should accept whatever the law says or file a lawsuit. Most people are NOT absolute about complying with the laws, obviously. According to strict laws, buying or selling a used book is illegal. (I only assume it extends to DVD) Yet a lot of people buy legit movies on physical media to watch and then re-sell it 6 months or 10 years later. So they comply with copyright laws upfront and then violate it in the backend.

I think most people would feel morally they should pay for JAV but not necessarily comply with all the related laws, especially when an ex-actress can stop you from watching her porn after 5 years.
