I thought Japanese were shy. at least many of them. And even mamy of my online japan friends tell me japanese people are shy.

But my research and experiences have shown that at least in my experience, most Japanese i meet in America are outgoing and like to do outgoing activities and clubbing, etc.

When i check out facebook pages of japanese in my town, they are many times with a bunch of friends all happy and outgoing and in clubs, or with a bunch of people.

And most of the ones i keep meeting( for some reason that's who i happen to meet) are Japanese girls who are fluent in English and try to be just like American girls and they sound just like them.

So.. correct me if i'm wrong, but are the only Japanese that are coming to study and live in America , the ones that are outgoing and good at English?

I know I'm going to hate myself for answering one of your posts seriously, but:

For the same reason that business people away on three day courses act like idiot teenagers; getting drunk, making noise, trying to pull everything in sight.

Because they are away from where people know them and don't have to restrict themselves in how they act.

The act of moving to a different country and submerging yourself in a foreign culture is naturally going to be more appealing to extroverts than introverts.

they wanna party, thats why they go to america. they wanna try something new and something they can do in foreign country of course.

not all of them are shy, actually most of them like to party, party is part of their culture

they are only shy to strangers or new people.

im living in japan, so you can trust me :)

well I'm quiet. that's why i find it hard to find japanese friends in America. Most of them, are not interested in quiet guys.Even if we quiet guys actually try and talk to them.

they seem to like stereotypical americans that sound like 90210 people or Friends(the show)

Uh, when have you been right about anything?
I can see why you'd want to start up a discussion on the topic. Your discussion skills however are less than spectacular as you yourself mention.
Best of luck on fostering them.

Haha, I think this is often true:)

As mentioned I think it is that more extroverted people think about traveling. Also, if you are traveling to a new place, you want to make friends, its easier than being alone and more fun (sometimes:)

The Japanese friends I know in my old guesthouse are travel minded. Most have either been or want to go, I guess its why they go to a Gaijin house (meeting people, language practice etc).

forgive me if i'm wrong... but if an introvert is someone who tends to themselves....they mainly stay inside or removed from people... thus you won't see them out and about... especially no at clubs. they mostly are at home, watching their porn or anime like myself. they will not be easily approachable.

extroverts will be out and about... at clubs... etc.... those that travel here are probably extroverts to start with BECAUSE that is a trait of an extrovert... try new things, being friendly, obnoxious etc.

IN ANY CASE: no matter the culture, once you break the ice, its another story.
however, if your an introvert trying to hookup with an extrovert... not going to happen!
extroverts like to pick their poison on which introvert they will shack up with!... usually the quiet rebel:evil:

Because people who go through all of the risk and effort to uproot themselves and move to a new country are not typical. For whatever reason they don't feel fully at home in their own culture and want something different. I know a lot of Japanese wives in the US who have married American men. Most of them are straightforward, open, and have careers. They would have a hard time in Japan.

I think anyone going to any other country to live is likely to let loose. I'm American, but when I first came over to Japan to live I can safely say I partied more than when I was back in the states.

It's just natural being away from your usual environment. It's not a Japanese thing.
