Actually I am pretty much not into sports nowadays, except mma and gymnastics. I will be watching the Olympics....if possible. And in America we already have a sport named football so referring to this as futball instead of soccer is just a little confusing for us over here. America is trying to get onboard though and the sport has gained a lot of popularity, especially in schools, because it is less violent and there are less injuries (not to mention it is very popular throughout the globe). I am still not a big fan myself though but I might catch it at the Rio Games just to see how we do.
You could just call it American football, like normal people do.

real football is getting more popular in the US - it makes me think that not all hope is lost for you people!
As for less injuries - yeah, probably a lot less injuries than in American football, but there are more injuries in football nowadays than there used to be (at least as far as I can remember - I don't really watch it daily anymore). Nowadays, no one seems to care about sportsmanship, fair play and other players' health anymore; all anyone cares about is winning.
Also, I don't know if anyone's watching the match right now (currently half-time for France vs Iceland), but this is some hardcore anal action... Definitely not what I was hoping for!
