IF-106 - I may already have this, but I'll have to check my files. I'm (not really) trying to figure out why they have written 103 senchi (103 centimetres) down the right side of the cover. Maria Hayashi is clearly not a homunculus.

homunculi maybe. i previously posted an .avi rip of IF-106 i got somewhere - probably from a torrent or from some prolific downloader. this is a digital version which i never posted before.

i finally figured out why i couldn't upload pix on the previous post. i uploaded hola! [http://hola.org/] as an add-on to my browser firefox and had enabled it to surf otherwise blocked japanese sites. apparently hola! is a free vpn and my cookies in my akiba-online zoolanimal account were blocked thus i couldn't upload pix or anything else in my account.

crashed my computer last night so have to repair my old tower and have accelerated getting a new computer system - upshot of both is i won't be posting for several days until i have arranged for posting on an alternative system.

i have some thoughts on a new system but i want to get the best price possible coupled with the ability to expand into other realms [gaming/CGI] other than merely super encoding [although that is a good start]. here's what i am looking at so far:

alot of the above i won't be using immediately, but i do want the ability to expand my system. one cost-cutting suggestion is to pare back to 16 gb of ram, get a 600 to 650 W power source, and, of course, an addition of at least a 3 TB hdd instead of the HGST 1TB 7200 RPM. i will also need a case with enough space to support the cooler. anyway if anyone wants to put in their 2 cents that would be helpful.

get a haswell, 4590 (if you're not overclocking), 4690k (if you are) or 4790k (if you are, and you want to spend $100 more for a minor gain)
for motherboard, you don't need (or gain anything from) anything in that price range, get something like the asus z97-a
32gb of ram is overkill unless you're running tons of (nonparavirtualized) virtual machines or doing physics simulations or something
for a boot drive, you absolutely want to get an ssd (samsung 840 evo is the best price to performance right now as far as I know). for regular desktop use, it'll be more of a performance improvement than the rest of the stuff combined. go with at least a 256 gig one for convenience
if you want to get a spinning disk too for storage, you can get a 3TB one for that kind of price
depending on what games you're playing/the resolution, you might want to get a cheaper cpu and upgrade to a gtx 970. (this will let you fully max out 1080p, and you're not going to upgrade it for a while)

that power supply is way too big for what you're building, that's for systems with like two or more giant gpus, not the baby one you're picking. a 450ish watt power supply is more than enough for any single GPU system (and should be good for a 970 sli setup, but you might want a little more breathing room). ideally you want a modular one, and if you're annoyed by noise from your computer (if you have it in your bedrooom for example), consider getting a fanless power supply

also don't get that ridiculous heatsink, it's pointless unless you're overclocking, and the 4790k, completely unoverclocked with the free stock intel cooler will murder the more expensive overclocked 3770k + $140 heatsink
noctua makes a decent line of heatsinks (the mounting system is way better than intel's garbage pushpins), the nh-u12s and nh-l12 are both pretty good.

Since he wants to use the machine for encoding, he'll very likely overclock it and he needs an i7(the gain for encoding is HUGE with hyperthreading) and you need the best possible cooler you can get for that since the software he's planning on using is even more demanding than using prime95(what most people use for stress testing).
I have an overclocked sandy bridge cpu which is easier to cool than Ivy and haswell and a custom watercooling loop and I'm still reaching 60C in average(can peak at 70C on a hot summer day and the safe limit is 72C).

I wouldn't go with a fanless PSU since it might hurt system stability if it get's too hot(but I'm not very familiar on how well they cool themselves so it might be fine).

First of all, SSD is a MUST HAVE. Buy a Samsung 840 EVO or Pro version, capacity 128GB or 256GB. Just install all program onto it. For data (video, music), you can store in hard drive. Believe me, buying a SSD was the best decision of my life, ever.

Use 16GB RAM, that's enough. Use your computer for 1 or 2 months, you'll see if you need more. RAM is very flexible, you can buy 2 more sticks anytime, so don't worry. Remember, speed is more important than capacity.

For encoding video, you'll (only) need powerful CPU, the more powerful the better. So 3770K is a good choice, you can overclock it in the future.

For cooling, well, go with air cooling. They are easy to install and clean. I suggest Prolimatech Megahalems series. They have no pump, no electricity, they will last forever.

For HDD, buy 1 big drive instead of few smaller ones. You'll be happy when installing them, just 1 slot, 1 cable, less struggling with your case.

Anyway, I have never seen Windows on shopping list ^^

got a surfing issue that needs resolved and perhaps someone can give me an assist? at another forum i found a link to LOVE-90 by first star. here's the cover:

the source was posted on http://filemarkets.com/fs/6ysyfwin9d8e38f8/ and the poster is chinese and assume that is relevant because: (1) it is evident a non-english language is being used in the .txt file and (2) not knowing the poster i always assume links like this are attempts to hack.

the 1st issue is that my notepad is opening the .txt file in english. anyone know how i can configure notepad to open this file with japanese and chinese script activated?

i am assuming the bottom gibberish is telling me a login and pw, probably in chinese.

anyone want to try their hands at downloading from these links? - personally i am not that trusting and don't have a sufficiently encrypted SFTP to download from these links and don't have the login and pw.

geez, i should have known that since that is basic 1o1 for ftp - thax for the refresher - the poster is wanting 80 chinese yuan or just over $13 USD for the video so at least it is an open hussle.

that is a better price that what is available on say, e.g., http://www.b10f.jp/en/p/30575.html?products_id=30575&language=en, a taiwanese site which sells the digital version of LOVE-90 for 2,480円 jpy. compare that to the dvd which can be about 6,000円 jpy, more or less!
