Speaking as myself... no one actually said what it's worth. The asking price for a studio (we don't know which one) was 90 million yens. The asking price for an agency (again we don't know which) is about 180 mils. There's no way to know if the studio was worth 90, and no idea if the agency is worth 180.

The comments below the report actually involved some non-BS discussion and calculation. But I m too lazy to translate it.

With capital investment I think I am looking for ROI of 5 to 15%, so for 180 mil investment, I expect 27 million yens net income per year. For 3 active idols thats 9 million yens net income each (on average). Or 750k yens per idol per month. But that's net. Gross income must be at least 1.5 mil yens per idol per month. That sounds totally unrealistic.

Consider one more factor that I can write out later... I figure the asking price wasn't just inflated by 2, I would be cautious even if asking price were only 18 million yens.

I've read the actual article and have done some currency conversion to USD for simplicity sake. The asking price for the agency is about USD 1.5 Million. Which sounds like a load of bull.

Not a surprise for me, she never get exclusive contract, she did much less vids than Aika, Hibiki Otsuki

Same thing might happen if Honoka Orihara, Aimi Yoshikawa retirement without big income from other work

Have you seen the amount of releases, both censored and uncensored, she push out during her prime ? She even did anal and DP which suggest she is getting paid quite a bit.

Interesting. I have always thought that it would be a great idea for super wealthy people to invest in JAV as perhaps more of a hobby. Since JAV and porn in general suffers from lack of sales in many cases it would be cool if it could be supported by individuals that are interested in producing movies they like. I mean If I ever start making enough money this is something I would certainly do. I would invest in studios that would create the type of movies I like.

That is if you are feeling generous. Like shelling out something like at least 20K with no expectation of getting returns.

Yeah its not enough to guarantee a good life of she doesn't have good investment. She was popular yes, but not popular enough to bring big payment, my guess what she earned from censsored & uncenssored are still below Ai Uehara and friends

She not type of girl who attract many non AV offers

Or you can say she had squandered every last cent. She's the right type of bimbo who like to live the high life.

Of course, money is never enough if you look at the case of the Yamaguchi Sisters. Word has it that almost everything they earn in their brief career had gone into repaying the debts of their mother who got conned when trying to established a startup. That is why they are trying to eek out a living in a small time cabaret in order not to draw attention to their plight.

PS :-

Anyone feel like crowdfunding Yuria Satomi's little underwear startup ? Starting at 5000 yen (USD 45). She'll go shopping and dining with you for 2 hours if you throw in 250,000 yen (USD 2200), with her manager tagging along.

Anyway, Satomi is a 9 year veteran and yet she still needs a bit of help here. Which proves my point about money.

There are many actress, models, tv presenters who open for escort workshop

Thats likely to happen if they spend big, bigger than their main income

There are no guarantee they will have comfortable life ever after

i think all of sex bussiness is a easy mode business , people love it more than drug, it will never fail.
people who complaint and said that jav business is down, behind this , they just angry that jav movies need more censored and such.
if i have that much money , i will buy madonna brand , i think i dont even need mybrain to create some jav movies that is okay enough for people to buy .
^ Oh really? You think so? Making porn is easy money, you say?

Question - are you paying for your porn? Is most of the porn in your collection paid for?

Now are you starting to see why the AV industry is a whole lot more complicated and harder to be profitable than you might think?

Outside of Japan, I am wondering if you are aware the the porn industry is pretty much controlled by one company called MindGeek?
http://www.slate.com/articles/techn...s_a_cautionary_tale_for_other_industries.html

The TL;DR of it is that MindGeek got its start by running porn streaming sites. Of course, the majority of their content is illegally uploaded but they made so much money of it that they could afford to buy up just about ever porn producer out there who were themselves suffering from decreased revenue - ironically because of these streaming sites.

So now these porn producers cannot complain about the streaming sites because they are owned by them. But nevertheless, they are making less money as people are watched their content being streamed for free. Its a Catch-22 situation that they can't get out off, simply because porn is a taboo topic and not likely to be addressed by lawmakers.

Still think shooting porn is so easy? By all means, set one up and watch your content get streamed by PornHub. You try to sue them, they have far more money to spend on lawyers than you do. Have fun with it.

What we need now is "crazy" rich people buy AV company and make porn not for profit but for pleasure

People who will make expensive projects come true without worry they will loose money

It's is true that both porn purchases is down and sex sells.

The way the Japanese porn sustain itself now is more of "renting" out the talents now than dependant on the sales of the video.

Like take how the top talents tend to have overseas gig now in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The chinese will pay big bucks to have them standing around and look good for a couple of days.

The lesser ones have their own gig inland in Japan where they meet fans. The fans will have to pay an entrance fee just to have a peek at their idol. To have a handshake or photograph taken with her, they will have to provide proof they bought 3 or 4 DVDs on the spot.

The movie themselves are more or less glorified advert now. Kind of like those 80s cartoon where the main goal is to get kids to buy the toys and the toys don't even look and function anything close to what they were like in the cartoons.

I think a monopoly like mindgeek hurts the industry as a whole. Especially for producers and performers. There are barely any western websites I would pay money to due to my fetishes. I was really into western blowbang movies when I first got into porn now those are much more rare.

I really hope jav sticks with a 1 girl 1 general theme full length movie format and not the garbage cookie cutter shit factory mindgeek companies produce. I like watching full length movies for the most part because I like the art of putting it all together. I also hate having a movie with 6 diff scenes and 2 or 3 of the girls being ugly or something. With a 1 girl dvd you know who you are getting and you can focus on the performance.

Conventional JAV have their own market, they should keep making it I'm agree but we need variations, if they back to conventional mode like in the 90s would be bad too

That's how the mainstream idol industry survive too. They do handshake events where you get tickets only by buying CDs. The more you buy, longer will be the handshake moment (you'll be able to chat a bit). Otherwise, I read that AKB and other idol groups have hard time getting new fans. So, fans from several years ago eventually don't listen to AKB or stop buying merch as they get older.

I guess there's some sort of empowerment fetish for people from Taiwan, SK, or China especially when Japan used to be a powerful country that once controlled parts of their countries while now its economy is weak. Today there's a lot more mainstream ways to make money other than selling/renting DVDs and escorting/dancing at clubs offscreen. You see a lot of those sketchy casino commercials featuring av idols as well as big tech companies paying av actresses to Cosplay and play with their employees. Btw Yuria Satomi talked about her earning again recently. She earns around 450k usd in 7 years, but she also receives 2 millions usd from "bfs." http://www.tokyoreporter.com/2017/07/24/av-actress-yuria-satomi-discusses-sex-and-taxes/

pretty sure it's just because out of all the East Asian countries, Japan outputs the most porn easily and so they're just stars. It's like any other celeb endorsement, the Japanese Imperial era has nothing to do with it.

If slave/bondage movies sold way better in those territories you might be on to something, but they don't....

Some hard truths behind the industry as exposed by retiring talent :-
%25E3%2582%25B9%25E3%2582%25AF%25E3%2583%25AA%25E3%2583%25BC%25E3%2583%25B3%25E3%2582%25B7%25E3%2583%25A7%25E3%2583%2583%25E3%2583%2588%2B2017-07-31%2B8.48.17.png

She gets paid 100,000 yen per film, but her actual salary is only 20,000 yen. The rest are taken by her agency.

%25E3%2582%25B9%25E3%2582%25AF%25E3%2583%25AA%25E3%2583%25BC%25E3%2583%25B3%25E3%2582%25B7%25E3%2583%25A7%25E3%2583%2583%25E3%2583%2588%2B2017-07-31%2B7.59.33.png

Reason given that her twitter followers counts are so low that she is lucky enough to even get a job thanks to her agency.

She felt that there is no use working hard when she doen't even have a chance to meet with the producer to promote hetself.

So basically, agencies are basically bloodsuckers who will use all sort of excuses to take a bigger slice of the talent's salary and studios are heartless bastards.

I have no idea who that is, but it makes you feel kind of bummed. She must have been really frustrated.
Yes, if you're not famous, the pay at first may not be good, but the agencies could also be taking more than their fare share. Let's put it this way, in Hollywood, I hear agencies may take 10-15% of the actor's pay. For JAV agencies, the percentage is A LOT higher and this is why in that article translated here the other day about the agency with 3 big names was/is asking for such a high price: Even just 2-3 popular actresses with many gigs can probably result in the agency making low 5-figures USD a month in profit.

I meant to write this in my other post, but I don't necessarily agree that JAV agencies are all-out evil 'bloodsuckers' as jwlim80 pointed out. We can disagree on that one.

You gotta realize that most of these women don't know jack about getting jobs, few have any higher education, they are doing jobs that may even take an adverse mental toll, etc. JAV agencies do pretty much *everything* for them: They'll get them jobs of course, they'll drive them to and from the set, stay on the set during shooting, be there as emotional support, be there as financial responsibility support (set them up with accountants, etc.), help manage their social network presence, manage their fan clubs, be their all-out concierge even when not doing jobs, and more. Agencies sometimes even take extra precautions by creating pseudo-companies for each actress so she can keep her real life resume padded in case she decides to return to 'real work' in the future. Otherwise she may have unexplained blanks from when she was doing AV.

I definitely do think they still take too much percentage, but 10-15% as it's done in Hollywood may be too low given the amount of work JAV agencies do compared to their western non-adult counterparts ("here's a job! Go and good luck!").
