billyboy your use of folders gave me an idea and I've been working with it off and on. Not quite your method but it would be similar. I need to to finish some of it and post back, but it would use folders to work off of. Thanks! :thief:

I organize mine like this:

Nothing more than a folder.jpg inside a folder with the name of the video. The file itself is named in this manner:
<VIDEO NAME> ([ACTRESS NAME]) [<VIDEO SERIAL>]

I can't think of a better way of organizing them, but it would be nice if I only saw the folder.jpg image thumbnail and not the folder icon. I know it's possible to remove it, but it removes it for ALL of Windows, not just certain folders.

Unfortunately iTunes will only allow mp4 & m4v videos. Any mkv or avi that you have would need to be transcoded to mpg. That is one large drawback as transcoding is not recommended. But if you have isos and or physical discs you can create them if your CPU has the processing power and time to do so.

well i use jriver media center and no transcoding is needed for MKV

Thank you for that comment, jriver is a fantastic interface, finally I can view dozens of covers and view them in an instant.

I've been playing around with a few programs, but so far, Jriver has been the closest to what I'm looking for. Here's what I've managed to get happening:

My biggest annoyance is that the character limit on titles seems to be really low, does anyone know how to increase it? It's also annoying that you need to double-click everything and I hate that damned window that pops up when you open a video folder. You also can't set a thumbnail for the "folder", you're forced to have a stack of the thumbnails for the videos inside.

Speaking of folders, it was a real pain to get this to work. I needed to create a new library with a "Location" category setting. Sad thing is, libraries don't have the cool pop-up window that appears on mouse-over like playlists do.

So unless I can find a solution for these issues, I think I'll stick with folders.

Hi guys, esp Casshern2, if no one else has any better idea. Then I have to conclude that what SamKook and I are using now is near the best approach. Too bad his link doesn't work anymore, as I'm starting a little project along the same line ...

I decided to use XBMC to sort and play my JAV... I very recently started to also create info file to make it more complete.

To everyone who has more than 50 JAV's on their HDD (probably everyone here?) using a media center instead of just a media player is highly highly recommended. iTune is a media center, the latest versions of Windows Media Player is also actually a media center and of course my fav is XBMC. Whereas VLC is a media player. Media Center does much more than play back a vid, it does exactly what you were asking in OP. Let you browse and search your collection, both visually and by search text.

My particular set up is: store my JAV in a NAS (network attached storage), do my maintenance work from a PC. For playback, sometimes I playback on the PC but mostly I watch it on my living room or bedroom TV. For each I got a Android PC just for that purpose (around US$100 each). XBMC runs on both my Windows PC and Android PC and is available for Linux and iOS as well. I can't even begin to list all the great features on XBMC and how slick and powerful it is.

If you collect non adult films too, then XBMC is perfect. It will scan your HDD and automatically download all kinds of info from IMDB. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any open database/website like IMDB or AniDB for JAV. So it's more manual ... If anyone is interested, please check out the thread that CodeGeek started.

ding73ding, the programmer in me wanted to come up with something unique for what I wanted (which I never clearly defined, by the way) but eventually figured two things. 1 - that there is surely off the shelf things that can do what I wanted and better. 2 - that even if I had something, with my schedule it wouldn't get used nearly enough to justify the expense and/or development time, so i stopped. But hopefully you can get your project working the way you like it. And it would be really cool if you had a product to share with others, I'm sure it would be put to good use.

Good luck!

You could always try Jriver Media center. Personally I think it is the best software to manage video and film library. Much more convenient, lighter and faster compare to Itunes.

It was very good of you to revive this useful thread of Casshern2's, Hero_kun. I don't use any media center software to organize my tons of JAV, but your suggestion got me curious enough to take a closer look.

As you wrote, EazyFlixPix is shareware, and it costs a few bucks after a trial period. Unless the software is something I must have, shelling out even a few bucks is the kind of thing that could sour my mug.

Someone who reviewed EazyFlixPix exclusively for porn collections (how do you like that. The forum is one I have never heard of, but perhaps some of you may wish to check it out: Pornusers.com. Clicking around briefly gave me the idea that many of the contributions are put up by thinking people, which serves as an attraction) was less than excited about the program, but that's one person's opinion, of course. Here is the review.

The reviewer also mentioned three other similar programs, which I took a quick look at, as well. ACDSee Pro 7, Picasa, and XnView - which is the only free one. (One reviewer from the linked page complained of unwelcome garbage during the installation, but that's a reality you get with many programs gotten from the Internet. You need to keep a sharp eye during the installation process.) From the previous page of this thread, another program that came touted was JRiver Media Center.

While I think it's very nice to have screen shots, covers, and other information about JAVs in your collection, gathering all of that seems like a lot of work for little gain. If I'm in the mood to watch a JAV, all I need is whatever information I've put in the file's name, to increase the chances of my finding a particular title, or to give me an idea of what the JAV offers. I don't need to do research as to what an unknown title will have to offer me, such as studying the cover and screen shots. Opening up the movie itself will give me all the information I will need, soon enough.

Those of you who think along the same basic lines and don't feel the need to get fancy will still be faced with the problem of putting a growing collection in order. A tiny program that I have found invaluable for this purpose is one called Copyfilenames31 - which may also be picked up from here, apparently (I don't remember where I got my copy from). I just go to the directory with the JAV files listed, highlight them, right click, and choose "Copy Filename"... after which, I paste into my document listing All That JAV. When the time comes to search, I simply throw in whatever key word or the DVD code, and I will know quickly enough whether I've got what I'm looking for, and which drive I have the title(s) stored on.

Getting back to EazyFlixPix...

A big thread on this program's usage for porn collections. I didn't read through carefully, but I get the idea there may be a way to get the program for keeps, after the trial period. (On the last, or eleventh, page of the thread - Post #117 - we get the line, "The unregistered version is fully functional, it only restricts the amount of content that can be displayed.")

The one thing that I would find useful while conducting searches would be the ability to add tags, and this program apparently can do that. On the first page of this thread (Post #10), a contributor also pointed to a similar program, Wwidd.

Some programs are really helpfull, especially the ones that Jugulear kindly showed us...can't say i didn't try some of these in the past, but when it comes to Javs I simply do it in the fashionable old way :coolguy:

It may seem astonishing to some, but to sort my 3TB collection of JAVS i use simply manual methods (probably the same as plenty other people) that don't require any use of programs so far and I can get to any jav i want to in less than 6 sec.

Just Great! I wrote it like one of those enlarging penis advertisements :...: whatever...

Here is what i do step by step (don't worry, there are pictures for the lazy ones :)):

1) Create a directory named "JAV" or whatever suits you more, then put a nice picture inside.

2) Inside "JAV" i create other directories (sorted in alphabetical order) wich are named after my favourite jav actresses.

To make an example i got a directory called "Minori Hatsune (followed by japanese name)".

Inside this directory I got a thumbnail/picture of her so that i can find this jav actress on the fly, way quicker than checking with the alphabet sometimes :study2:

Then I take each movie of that specific actress (ofc only those that I pick as my favourite) and place it in a subfolder of the actresse's directory, this subfolder's name will reflect the jav code of the movie i'm going to store inside. So basically if i have the jav movie IPTD-250, i'll create the directory named IPTD-250, store the movie inside and also put the jpeg of the cover inside it, so that even when I check the actress directory i can tell wich kind of movie i'm going to watch just from looking at the picture. You'd be amazed how quickly i can find what i have in mid with this system, is very simple but damn intuitive and that's the strenght of it.

... ???

Usually when i'm going to download a jav, i pre-emptively create the directory that's going to store that movie, copy-paste the name of the jav code in it and save the cover as jpeg always inside the same Directory. This way i can optimize the time and avoid having to research for that jav again to get the code or anything related to it, it's really simple and not time consuming as you may think :)

:pick:

Ok then...did you read this far? Here is a concrete example of what i do:

These are little frames of what my JAV directory actually looks like:

attachment.php

As you can see all the actresses directories are named with romaji and japanese name for research and sorting reason :)

attachment.php

This is how the inside of actress directory looks...don't be fooled, most of my minori hatsune movies are safe in a remote far far away device

3) For all the other javs with multiple actresses or some you didn't really like that much but get the job done nonetheless, I usuallty store those movies in separate directories from the actresses ones, those directories are the category folders, wich are obviously named based on what kind of jav i'm going to store in.

Here is an example of my category folders:

TIMESTOP: with all the stop time and RCT javs related

MOTHER: With all the glorious incestuous OBA, OKSN, VENU and whatever... :hugethumb:

SISTER: Pretty much the same sweet sin as the above but with younger chicks :) :bigthumbs:

TEACHER: Motto Sensei! :girlwant:

BUS Chickan: Essentially DANDY stuff with girls fucked in train/bus :tenseguy:

r***: Simulated r*** and other RCT, IPTD stuff :want2:

LESBIAN: :winkgirl::winkgirl:

FETISH: Don't even think about it! :flame: that's none of your business! :gosh:

SCAT: Woa! I didn't say anything... :sweaty:

More SCAT: I actually fell like puking when i see it being shared :pukepool: it's not my thing...

BBW: mmm maybe we can work something out :relaxed:

SQUIRT: :wet2:

SCATTY SCAT: ok you're kidding me :evillook:

SCATTERING SCAT: :throw:

Here is a frame of my category folders:

attachment.php

Those ar...Spurt!...What's that rabbit doing there!? :waterspit:

Anyway this is a sample of what my categorized directory looks like, i put an exclamation mark "!" at the very start of the name to separate those folders from the actresses ones. For me it's much more intuitive and convenient but nothing stops you from creating two main directories one called "Actresses" and one called "Categories". The inside of the folders it's pretty much the same as the Actresses ones, but you can add some subfolders to ease navigation even further.

Anyway as you just saw, it's really nothing elaborate...but gets the job done. If i have any type of jav in mind that i wish to see, maximum 6 sec and i've finished browsing through all my 3TB of javs to find the one that suits me. Simple and intuitive, nothing else involved and the manual effort is really minimal if you follow my advices. Actually you are free to don't give a shit of all the above and create your own sorting order and folders, mine is just a sample to give you an idea of quick and efficent sorting system, then it's your job to make it as you like :p.

As i previously said, probably many of you out there already use these simply methods as they are very basic, but i felt like sharing my personal way of sorting jav, especially for those who are new to the enormous jav world or would like to find an easier and proficent way to sort out their collection without the use of any program.

In the end, what's also great about this sorting system (any similar sorting system actually), is the navigation itself between the jav material, browsing through folders that instead of being static paper actually show a cute face or irresistible eyes. Even in those days you are unsure of what to see, one look at the main folder and you'll have your ideas clear as crystal before you know it :).

Aside from the great wall of text, I hope you enjoyed :coolguy:

p.s. for all you greasy people who seek out for that pink rabbit...it's RCT-594 :lolidunno:

OSX + Linux users, rejoice!

There is now a more efficient way to fap!

Some time ago I began a simple command-line script to pull a 'random' video from the collection and play it. Clicking around a gui looking for files to play is a distraction. Now, you can more easily focus on the task at hand!
The script evolved over several years of 'research and development'. It's essentially an 'mplayer' wrapper script that pulls a random-or-specific file from your collection. (If you do not have command-line mplayer on OSX, you can install easily via 'homebrew'. It's highly versatile and plays damn near everything you can throw at it.)

This script is a very quick & easy way to instantly play one or more random videos, optionally sorted/restricted by date (-o or -t options), or you can get specific with a search by filename or directory key-word (-s option). It also does a lot more, if you like, such as opening any associated images (assuming img filename matches a video filename).

You can instantly get a random selection of one or more videos; these screenshots show some examples of random video layouts, the result of a single run of the command. it does it's best to automatically tile the videos across your desktop.
Not satisfied with the roll of the dice results? Instantly clear all playing videos and pull another set of random (or specific) selections just by adding the -k option.
INlayA0.jpg

Or you could just pull up videos specific to one of your favorite stars, (ex, '-s "ameri ichinose"')
EH4Mpft.jpg

Of course, to get the full benefit, this assumes you've got a solid naming convention. FWIW I generally use 'Star Name - VID-ID - Vid Title' as my naming convention (the result of another script, if anyone's interested).
But a the very least it can always draw random selections, regardless of filename conventions.

ex;
Example Usage;

Play a random file from the locations set in @Collections array:
(@Collections = "/Volumes/ENCRYPTED")
fapomatic.pl

List files and play a random file from another directory:
fapomatic.pl -l ~/Downloads

Order listing by mtime, select 3rd video from list:
fapomatic.pl -l -o -n 3

Open multiple videos, no prompt. If not given, $default_repeat = 5:
fapomatic.pl -r 3 -a

List and play 5 videos from the past month, muted, kill any already running:
fapomatic.pl -q -l -t 1m -r -k

Starting at first vid, sequential play all videos that match search term:
fapomatic.pl -l -o -s "star wars" -n 1 -r all

**UPDATE** 2014-04-16: added -j option to start all files X seconds into it, and improved sound options.

Download current version here, remember to 'chmod +x', and edit @Collections accordingly :

Feedback welcome!
