Hmm let's say that some videos would have couple of different versions available, like, 720p, 1080p & 4K, would it be possible to pay for the lesser quality version? Especially if there are price differences.
Personally I never need any higher quality versions of movies than 720p, for me keeping higher quality movies is bad news, since they take SO much space. I already have like 10 HDD machines and I'm not looking forward to buying more of those. My house is already ready to turn into a Terminator.
I can't even spot the quality difference between 720p & 1080p usually. Which is why I have to always make 720p versions out of 1080p & 4K files, so I'm constantly converting things.
I think the pros and cons of 720p vs. 1080p & 4K files are these.
4K etc:
Positive:
- Picture quality
Negative:
- Size, size does matter, no matter what anyone says
- Usability. If you don't have a decent computer or some other machine you cannot use things like 4K files, the bigger the size the bigger chance there is an compatibility problems.
- Price (?), probably.
- For the uploader it's more work to deal with huge files.
- For the downloader it's more work to deal with huge files.
720p files makes all of these negative sides disappear, I like that. It's still also has a good picture quality usually, at least I can see things clearly enough.
