I think "r*ap* in JAV used to be a bit wild, just like western porn in its early days.
So many things was happening and not all of it was good.
So the laws constantly changes to protect performers, etc. Constantly changing.

Anyways, I can't speak on much on this topic because i don't support it but I get what you're saying.
Only so much "realistic" they can do.

Because of the genres I'm into most of the actresses end up being freelancers. They generally have a proven track record of sales, acting or performance. The kind of actresses that stay with a single studio long term probably inhabit a vanilla space I'm not particularly interested in anyway.

Gotta disagree here. I think story is one of the things that make separates JAV from other porn. Try watching Hunter videos up until around HUNTA-130. It's the same ol, same ol. Then they clipped the apron strings and hand-me-downs from SOD.

I know as I type this out people are going to disagree, but I think it's the studios like S1, who hire the pretty face and have the same format for everyone, same story progression are more the culprits for decline. It's why Reina Matsushima, Maria Ozawa, etc all left back in the day. They're stale. (I caveat this statement that a) I love the history of JAV b) one probably needs to know the steps and progression to go from amateur to SSS-class.
