Hey pals, I'm new to Japan...

I'm an university student and I want to visit japan for a while. Problem is I don't have much money to stay in hotel or any kind of motel above $90/night. Can someone tell me something? Like, where should I go, people should meet, city have low price to stay... I know it's a bunch of information but I don't believe in travel agents they are some kinds of liar, Thank you.
P/S: I don't mind to share room.

Youth hostels are fine in Japan. They're much cheaper than $90 a night. And, you'll meet lots of people too.

How and where to cheap it out.

In Tokyo, I can recommend

• Sakura hostel Asakusa
• Khaosan Tokyo hostel group

In Yokohama, try

• Guest House Kanalian
• Yokohama Hostel Village
• Hostel Zen
• Hostel Nemunoki Minatokan

They're all very cheap. You may want to add Tokyo Cheapo to your bookmarks as well.

check trip advisor for better reivews. im not a fan of sakura and khaosan since their access to airports isnt that great. il rather stay in hotels in ueno or shinjuku. if you are travelling alone try couchsurfing or check hostel world. location is very important on which parts of tokyo you want to visit.

I agree regarding the difficulty of getting to Khaosan. My buddy was there last year, I went to meet him at the hostel and was VERY surprised just how incredibly far it was from Asakusa station.

yes never stay in a place that is too far from any train station. max distance for me is 200 meters and o yes you better check the airport access. taxi is very expensive in tokyo. me and my friends spent almost 40usd when one of us got so tired and too drunk too walk. another advice. plan your trip before coming to tokyo. each area has its own character and you can spend loads of time in a certain place so you dont have to go back again the next day and waste your time and travel expenses.

Internet cafes are great. Get a "room" with a sofa.
