I'm halfway through moving a 1TB HDD to Blu-ray discs. That's drive 1 of 6 so far. Well...1 of 5, #6 died...hence the move to something that won't "crash".

Basically, I have a JAV folder with two folders " Censored" and "Uncensored". In "Censored", I organize by actresses. Each girl has a folder. When more than one actress appear in the movie, I keep it just in "Censored" (not in a particular actress folder). For the file itselft, I use the movie ID and I add the year in ( ).
In "Uncensored", I don't have as much as "Censored" so it's just like this :
10musume - 050314_01 - Miyuu Shimazaki (2014)
It's still very easy to browse.

Yeah backup is one thing I need to look into, I have a large music collection as well that took quite a long time to build up and there's some very rare stuff in there that I don't know I could find again or would take some doing. I really wish I had the bandwidth to do a cloud backup or something. I'd hate to back it all up to another mechanical drive only to have that one fail as well. What's the shelf like on those blu ray discs? I was thinking of looking into tape backup solutions as well, I know they have some massive capacity tapes now, might be expensive though.
Well...I have CDs I bought in 1995 that still play for what it's worth. That's 21 years so far. :D

Well now I just put each JAV in their own folder with the title code and then the actresses that are in it that I like, plus the movie cover in the folder, and then I use the Everything search to find what I'm looking for.. It's so fast, I've been using it for years and I can't believe Microsoft hasn't bought them out yet since it's like 100x better than the Windows search. Other than that, I just watch what I've downloaded recently, I have all my JAV folders sorted by date. I think this is the most efficient way, I mean for regular movies a media manager works great but managing a 4TB JAV collection with so many different studio and actresses and everything.. I think the system I have now works pretty well. Eventually I might split them up by studio, but with Everything it's not really necessary.
Gonna have to give this "Everything" search a try. I've a number of external HDDs that may or may not be connected at the time of fapping and sometimes this causes the Windows search index to get corrupted as files I know I have often fail to show up in the results. Hopefully this search engine works better.

For large music collections I would recommend Google Play Music. It lets you upload up to 50,000 of your own songs that can then be accessed from anywhere and they have support for Android, iOS, and web. Oh and its free :D

Everything is great, it's like the first thing I install on a new computer besides Firefox.. I think it has an option to auto index removable volumes too, it's very fast too no annoyingly slow progress bar in explorer anymore ahaha. Hmm I'll have to look into Google Play Music, I know I have a lot more than 50k songs but it would be nice to have a bunch on there.. Do they support FLAC too or just MP3?
Just MP3. Anything not MP3 will be automatically converted to MP3 320kbps as you upload

Yeah but those are pressed CD's vs burnt CD's.. "Pressed media have a longer lifespan because the reflective layer is aluminum, which doesn't degrade as rapidly as the organic dyes used for a writable DVD." I have some CD's and DVD's that I burned only a few years ago that are no longer readable..
Had...not...thought of that.

I'm also using DVD+R for backup, but it's a stop-gap measure, as I do know that CD-R DVD+-R and burned Blu-Ray are not archival. I recently pulled out some 10 years old DVD+R that still reads. So that at least proved that my 10+ years stop-gap measure isn't total debacle (yet). One of these days, I will steel myself and get an archival HDD (or 5) and copy all the stuffs from all the DVD+R, all the HDDs and put them in a bank deposit box.

HDD failures come from 2 things: getting used (powered up and spinning) and getting dropped. If you avoid those, HDD's are very very secure against data loss. Anyway I don't foresee I will have fapping needs 50 years down the line. (sigh) I have to admit the End is in sight.

Just want to say that I've been using Everything search for about 2 days now and it is fantastic. It is light-years better than the built-in Windows search and a must have if you have a well indexed porn library like I do. I really love the "run count" column, it's basically a "play count" like in iTunes and lets me see which videos I watch the most often. I only wish I started using this earlier.

My organization method is a work in progress.

I have a Jav directory, and in there I have folders for actresses. Those actress folders just have DVD covers, and sometimes thumbnails. Their filenames have the video codes. Videos with multiple actors get their cover images duplicated. There's also a misc directory, sometimes cover files there have actress names in. And I have a video folder, all videos go there. Named with their video codes. There's a subfolder for uncensored, and one for short clips.

I plan to write a program that'll read these directories and generate a database for me, and show a Netflix-style interface.

edit (changed)

short but bigger in size than mine lol and I have maybe 40 girls I like, both retired and active. But there are girls that have a lot of movies and I still didn't see all them, just a few (Yuma Asami, for example). I plan on adding Minori Hatsune (killer body and great skills) so, like Yuma, many movies are already available. I wonder if there are torrent "movie packs" for big names.

Oh and I'm curious about your folders : what do you have in each movie folder ? movie + cover ?

i'm starting to organize all my files in folders but here's the thing... do I have to choose between sorting them by actress, genre, and label ? I mean it's a shame having to sacrifice one for the other... :/

I find myself facing the problem while trying to sort my music albums... artist , musical , genre , mood... there's so many categories i'd like to sort them with

any solutions?

In Windows, there are "Libraries". You can add a folder or multiple folders in a Library, and subfolders are automatically included too. The Music library can show the files by folder (I put each album in its own folder), artist, genre, song, album, or rating, assuming the metadata is filled out. Of course, there are media players with similar function such as foobar2000 and VLC.

The Video library in WIndows is kinda limited though. Same with VLC, the only useful option for sorting videos is by Genre. Maybe sort by Artist if useful too if you puy the studio name or actress name(s) as the artist (if there are two or more actresses, separate their names with a semi-colon).

Using Libraries, either built into Windows or in media players, you can sort media files into folders any way you like but you can still see the files all together on one screen or sort them based on their metadata.

Exactly, yes. I like to organize my folders, it's pretty important for me, I must have a visual clue owing to my shitty memory haha, I forget everytime the type of video.

And it's quiet exciting to see a sexy cover picture, it give me envy to click and watch

Good idea, I think I will do the same. It's not easy to remember what is going on in a movie just with a movie code (what I currently do) so with a cover, it's far easier.

Has no one heard of JAVMovieScraper? I use it to organize a 12TB+ collection. It does all the hard work for you as it pulls in data from sites like R18 and Javlibrary, creating metadata and images for use in programs like Media Companion (recommended). It can also automatically rename the files and folders based on criteria you specify, so you can get a clean file/folder structure.

JAVMovieScraper uses Java, so it's a little slow/buggy, especially when you're working with big collections, so you have to be patient and play around with it to make it work the best for you.

I highly recommend using Media Companion as the tool to browse through your collection when the scraper is through doing its work. As you can see from the images below, you can really easily find what you're looking for, whether it's a particular actress, fetish, keyword, or brand. Of course, you can simply load up the wall and look at the posters and see what catches your eye. :)

Woooooow! I've been using Personal Video Database for ages, but I've been doing all the data on the movie by myself. Could you explain me some things? Does it have a section where you can customize the profile for each actress (like, put a biography you want) and stuff like that? I'm gonna try that.
