Thanks guys for the advice. Yes, ultimately I would like something that is wireless like the Quest. I am just concerned that it won't play the 4K/5K files properly. Walle12 and Restaurant - I presume you both have one and therefore have no issues playing high bitrate files? If that's the case and your both happy with the Quest then I will probably just go for the Quest. Thanks guys
It won't play 5K 60FPS. There are websites with external tricks to make them play it, but a standard video file, no.
No, I don't have Oculus Quest. I have Samsung Odyssey Plus. But they need a PC. If you are looking for the best quality image for videos, you need glasses with a PC, because you can play videos with supersampling, that add more definition.
Talking about definition, today I have downloaded the first western VR porn with 7K resolution (7264x3648 59,94fps)
I haven't watched it yet, let's see if my PC can run it...

Unfortunately the lack of available stock of VR glasses here (Thailand) has meant that the unscrupulous shops or traders that have them are charging big prices. I suppose the majority of files I want to play seem to be in the 4k region. I don't mind if they were down-scaled to 3K but as id currently stands my PSVR just lags and blurs most of the 4 k files I try and put through it.
If I shell out more for the more expensive glasses like the Pimax5k Plus that in turn means having to pay too much for a video card capable of meeting it's needs. Walle12 - your Samsung Odyssey Plus sounds interesting, what would be the minimum GPU I would need to have them perform properly (for VRJAV and VR Games like Half Life)? If yours allow you to play files that are 4K (even though the res will be lowered - but still not introduce blurring or stuttering ect) then they would be a pair I would be interested in.
For the time being, does anyone know of any programs I could use to reduce VR files from 4K to 2K? Thanks for all your input guys

I've used HandBrake. It does ok, but it's pretty difficult to use at first. Preset should be Production Max. Under the Video tab the quality should be set at about 18 RF.
You don't need a powerful PC to watch 4K VR videos. These are the minimum spec:
- GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290 equivalent.
- CPU: Intel i5-4590 or AMD FX 8350 equivalent.
- RAM: 4 GB or more.
- Video Output: HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort 1.2 or newer.
- USB Port: 1x USB 2.0 or better port.
- Operating System: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1 or later, Windows 10.
I have a GTX 1070 and I can watch 6K VR films with 60 fps without problems. As I said, even if your glasses are 2K you can use a technique called supersampling to play 4K or 5K videos maximizing the definition. Of course it is not the same that if you have a 4K screen, but you see much more definition than the same video at 2K.
Thanks for the info. I'm sure my PC can handle it, but I'll need to get a decent GPU first. Before I can do that I have to track down a headset that is at least reasonably priced. I came across a Samsung Odyssey Plus on ebay, new, but he was looking for about 450 usd and another 75 for shipping. I see that microsoft are showing it as discontinued on their site, so I wonder is an updated version imminent.
How long does it take to do post-production and release a VR video? Hitomi Tanaka posted pics from the set of her new VR video on her Instagram account on Jan. 21st. I'm surprised it hasn't come out yet. Maybe it takes a long time to get it ready? Maybe something went wrong? Or maybe this video is, like, the Lawrence of Arabia of big titty JAV VR and is going to take a long time to make? I'd be fine with that last one by the way.
If you just want to watch JAV or videos and not really games, I can suggest the Oculus Go over the Quest. It's cheaper and is targeted for videos. You still can play games but they are different from the experience you would get with the Quest of course (still very fun though). The Oculus Go can handle 4096x2048 for 60fps 180°.
I was using a Gear VR (first gen) with a Galaxy S6 Edge + before, and back when I started watching VR, there was only 2K max. The first VR JAV I've seen is CRVR-006 lol, 1600x1600, 29 fps. Then, maybe a year after, 4K VR movies started to be released but unfortunately, my phone couldn't play them so there was less and less movies I could watch. So, after few months, I decided to buy a standalone VR headset, easier to use and to set up rather than using your phone. After tips from other members here and videos on youtube, I bought the Oculus Go. From the start, it's way more comfy, the joystick is perfect for the navigation, way easier. When I finally downloaded 4K VR JAV and play it, it was a whole new experience. The screen-door effect, very strong on the Gear VR, is gone (I can't see any pixel or maybe you have to really really focus on it which is impossible), no more weird sized girls lol (it happened a lot before). 3840x1920 (3K ?) works really well, and 4096x2048, it's top notch !
When I played it, I think it was the first 4K movie I downloaded and I thought "OMG, it's like she's right in front of me".
It is what I try to explain to the people. It is very important. When you use a screen designed for VR, not a smartphone, it is a whole new experience because you don't see the pixels. And when you watch a 4K film, it is not a video: it is like the girls are right there with you. And you can watch a 4K film with a 2K glasses, and you'll see more definition than the same film with 2K resolution.
Most people watch VR Porn with a smartphone. If you really want a whole new experience, you need real VR glasses, not a smartphone. Oculus Go are cheap, Oculus Quest have more resolution and you can connect them to a PC, with PC glasses you can do supersampling for extra definition... Whatever you use, don't use a smartphone's screen....
And about the films, a 2K video is just a 3D video. A 4K video is the girls there with you...
