yes.

it looks like it's an ddos trying to hit on our php-servers.
i'm trying to stop this, but since we don't have a ddos-protection i don't know how fast i can fix this.

the DDOS now has deceased a bit - so i'm able to get the board back online.
please keep in mind, that the attack can get more intense again.
ATM we are operating at about 95% or our available resources.

i'm going to look for a DDOS-Protection, but as it looks now: we are not able to afford a good one.

edit
had to turn it off for a few hours.
i'm sorry. but we can't afford anti-ddos

time to add a banner or two, you need a sponsor

one or two banners won't probably help.
a good ddos-protection costs around 1,5k or even more considering the huge amount of traffic we produce.
if we go to cloudflare (which is the cheapest) we need at least the business-plan - so 200$ of additional costs and then we are protected from all attacks - there we need the enterprise-plan, which cost 5k$ per Month.

so the best is probably: waiting till the DDOS is over.

That is frigging outrageous! What a scam! DDOS attacks have sure become a lucrative business (how American though, if it causes misery we can make money from it)

Hopefully you can institute some type of auto-feature to shut the site down if needed then. Our trust is in you guys to do whatever is necessary.

(For those who want to know more about DDOS there is always the wiki):

confirmed. As a matter of fact I noticed a pic of mine I uploaded earlier had disappeared ( I re-uploaded it). The earlier DDOS attack may have caused some damage to the forum.

I came across a problem but i don't know if its only me or maybe others are affected too

if i click on the following link nothing happens

http://www.akiba-online.com/threads/tsdv-41671-saya-kataoka-take-me-to-summer-iso-4-21gb.1444460/

"Waiting for akiba-online.com"
Then the long wait begins
blank screen and then the loading stops and i,m left with a blank screen

IE, Firefox, Chrome sware iron on my pc
Firefox on my server
all of them won't load that link/topic
hi,
i've now fixed this "problem"
it looks like there were some database-queries having a lock on the row. somehow ... perhaps a leftover from the DDOS.
it's now available under a new ID: http://www.akiba-online.com/threads/tsdv-41671-saya-kataoka-take-me-to-summer-iso-4-21gb.1445492/

@Ceewan:
can you link me the thread?
this could be the cause, that i yesterday had activated and then deactivated a few rewrites in order to test, if we are able to use a cdn.
so perhaps in your cache there were the old pathes, which aren't available a the moment.

as a matter of fact:
the new Firefox will bock flash. This isn't a problem as long as you won't use the flash-uploader to upload images to the board.
for this - please activate flash on akiba - or use the"classic" uploader (you can change this in your profile settings)

Hm, I can't confirm that. I have Firefox 34.0.5 running on an up-to-date patched Windows 7 with the current version of Shockwave Flash 16.0.0.235. And it works perfectly.

I've uploaded since, so no problem now. I don't now about Flash, I am using some of the default setting for Tor Browser and some custom. Here is the thread:
http://www.akiba-online.com/threads/christmas-in-japan.1250771/ (post [HASHTAG]#10[/HASHTAG])

I had already deleted the broken image which had previously worked and reuploaded the image.

Boards don't get DDOS for no reason, do you have any idea why and who is behind ? Is it the first time ? DDOS is not the method used by LEA, so it must be a frustrated former member or one of those self proclaimed "moral's guardians".

DDOS is not the method used by LEA.

Tell that to wikileaks......

But a lot of things can cause a DDOS attack that are unintentional as well. Hackers use it for fun and porn industry hired guns as well as anti-porn fanatics are well acquantied with the idea. Personally I think the question of "who" or "why" is a moot point.

Got a few times
Code:
504 Gateway Time-out
nginx/1.7.8
again. :(

There is another explanation for a DDOS attack: A website crawler. I guess for some people it would be interested to crawl the download and/or torrent sections for links and/or torrent files. And if they don't put any kind of "break" into it, it will make a lot of request in a very short amount of time.

crawler that will try to access too much sites within a minute (or even users) will be automatically banned from the system.

i will try to increase the time-out on the frontent-servers in order to not getting 504-errors, though the page load will be very slow.
Also i'm trying to reduce the load ... and / or blocking out suspiccious clients :/

Hi,
I'm just online via mobile phone.
Here it's wirking all according to my expectation.

Please try clearing your browser cache.
When I'm at home, I will look into this in detail.

If I actually try to view your avatar directly I get:

One more step
Please complete the security check to access akiba.ookami-cdn.net

Otherwise I get:
a broken image symbol

and if I enable javascript the only thing that changes is this reply box window dissapears.

No worries though. You do what you got to do, if I have to circumvent this myself I probably can if I desire (but coming here through a webproxy is not desirable).

yep, coming via webproxy seems to fix everything. Uncool....... but if you feel it is necessary let me know.

ah i see.
your sysem was blocked out due to some strange behaviour of the client. (better the ip you are using - probably a tor exit node)
i can't really do much against this, since i first have to deal with the DDOS (today again!)
until i have managed to go around this, i can't disable the security-mechanisms.
