I've been thinking about this for a while now, what's everyone's opinion on creating a GitHub repo to allow people to upload subs? We could add some basic organization to it to differentiate the different types of sources (Whisper, hand translated, CH to EN...etc.) and even allow users to submit PR to improve sub quality.

That is too complicated, unfortunately. There should be a better source or UI for crowd edits, but Git specifically is both too complicated and I don't think Git version of merging will work well with SRT files that have each line given a specific number.

I used Whisper to produce this file for DASS-115. I still had to clean it up a bit and re-interpreted some of the meaningless/ "lewd-less" dialog. Again, I don't understand Japanese or Chinese so my re-interpretations might not be totally accurate but I try to match what is happening in the scene. Anyway, enjoy and let me know what you think.

Hello all. This is my first experiment using whisper by following instructions from this group, so I thought I should contribute by posting it. I quite like the result but still there are sentences that make no sense (perhaps figurative speech in Japanese) and a few untranslated parts, short usually. It can be followed quite well but if anyone wants to polish it please go ahead as I can't understand Japanese.
Athena is IMHO an unfairly forgotten studio when it comes to subtitles.

You're gonna have to be a bit more specific since there's multiple versions.
In short, you extract the audio from the video, feed it to whisper(upload first if using the collab) and that's it. After that you can fiddle with settings or process the audio first if need be.

I was so excited to have subs for this that I started creating my own (loosely based on the original Comic) a couple days ago when the movie first become available. (Spoiler alert..there's lots of dialog, so I didn't get far...only 10 minutes or so.)
Since then I've seen a couple new versions, now including yours.
I'm on vacation for another day, but intend to spice it up a bit when I get back home on Monday.

Git can be a huge barrier for a lot of people which would not make it ideal.
Ideally a site that allows user contributions and users to leave comments on sub quality and even suggest changes. If there are multiple subs for a movie, then users can vote on the preferred one.

Existing version control and existing wiki formats just aren't good for subtitles. You really need something that presents SubtitleEdit's UI as a communal wiki, with there being three separate and linked columns of time, duration, and text. It is like a table, but with restrictions in place that the start time should always be presented in order, with new lines fitting in where they should obviously go.
