Funny thing about Americans, they like to watch porn while getting laid. Not everyone is comfortable with groups or swaping partners, so video is the safest alternative.
There may be an almost equal number of men and women in Amerca, but there are 10x more men on the popular dating sites than women. My guess is that the women find a guy and leave the site whereas a guy with try to find more women. I mean, not that I've done that.
Either way, since using the service of a prostitute is _hugely_ looked down upon (despite being similar to having sex with a stranger for free); men here tend to go for the easy and immediate fix: internet porn.
From a purely economical standpoint, it's better than a prostitute, dating to find romance, and a divorce. Porn is a surprisingly good alternative.
