I wish you guys had more JAV synopsis translations. I guess that's too labor intensive and not worth the trouble (They were more frequent a while ago.) but maybe it's possible to include some "This JAV has a synopsis translation!", marker in the overview, instead of having to check each individual movie?

We would like to continue offering synopsis translations and we will, however we also added thousands of titles from SOD and KMP along with the regular batch of thousands of titles that appear each month. We want to make sure we get the titles up on our site without delay rather than risk a delay due to synopsis translations. Our titles are not machine translated so we need to consider the time it takes to translate before they are available on R18.com.

Is there really such demand for mobile porn browsing?
Mobile porn browsing out performed traditional desktop browsing sometime in 2013 across many sites. It's only increasing and will continue to do so as many peoples only connection to the internet is increasingly only from mobile/smart phones.

This is interesting because I recently read an article that mobile browsing is on the raise. But the article also stated that it doesn't have a negative effective of desktop browsing. Instead it adds to the desktop browsing. Means people don't exchange their desktop browsing time by mobile browsing time, but simply spend more time in the Internet thanks to mobile devices.

hmm.. interesting. I can't imagine how that works. So people are watching porn on their tiny screens at work, school, or other public places? Whats the point? Its not like you can masturbate. Are they just pre-gaming for when they get home?

Idk. Guess I'm just old school.

Actually, if you examine the data from a lot of the big tubesites and porn sites, you will see a lot of mobile browsing occurs during work hours. I have personally been to several conferences where I have been show the data to support this. The data doesn't lie, and it seems like everyone enjoys spanking it at work on their tiny mobile screen.

The real question is what the impact is on productivity. Maybe it goes up!? In which case we should all spank at work more often.

We had a little miscommunication within our team and underestimated the amount of downtime our upgrade would cause across the site. So you will soon see this message displayed on the channels and in your library.

We are currently undergoing an upgrade for thousands of movies to enable playback on mobile devices. During this time, many movies may appear discontinued or removed from the website/Channels/and My Library. However, this is only temporary, and movies will be available again shortly after the upgrade. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Rest assured, the 3000+ movies were not removed from the dream channel, and 40,000+ movies have not been removed from the site. We were under the impression the transition would be a bit more seamless... apologies! The movies should be re-appearing across the site in the next few hours in the order they are upgraded.

Captain - thank you for your fast response!

I haven't used R18 before so i was hoping to get some answers for a few questions i have. I apologise if this has all been covered. I have looked through the FAQ page on the site but i still have some queries.

1. If i buy a movie then can i download that movie and which format will it be i.e.; .avi or .mkv etc.?

2. If i can download it then what player can i use to watch it? Is R player the only player i can use? I mainly use VLC player. Is that a viable option as i haven't even heard of R player. Is it what used to be Real Player?

3. Can i add subtitle files i.e.; .ass or .srt files to the video while i watch it?

4. Who receives my payment? Is it strictly DMM? Do the studios responsible for the production of the movie get a cut? Clearly studios go buy sales as to what movies they produce and which actresses they hire so if my purchases can contribute to what movies are produced in future it would be very useful.

Just a few questions i wanted to ask before i sign up to the service.

Slight answer to #4: studios are paid on a revshare percentage deal where they receive X% of the price of the movie. The percentage varies per studio and their sales numbers.

Purchasing from R18 WILL end up with money in the studios' pockets though the best way you can support a studio is direct purchases (just how artists prefer you buy their albums/merch directly instead of using Spotify or iTunes). Of course this may not be feasible with all studios, but if you are feeling generous, you should consider emailing in SIMPLE ENGLISH your favorite studios. Say that you are a big fan, but live abroad and would like to purchase multiple movies (to make it worth their time). You may luck out and they may work something out. They may even include bonuses like Polaroids from the set, signed merchandise, etc. It's possible.

If that's too much work or your email goes unanswered and you still want to support your favorite studio, R18 provides a good option.

1. wmv at the moment but it looks like they will get rid of it soon.
2. you'll only be able to use their proprietary R-player (not real player), VLC doesn't support DRM. All their videos are locked so they only work with the
media player they provide. Also you have to connect with dmm/r18 servers to give you permission to play the video (seriously this is the nature of DRM)
3. unless you strip the DRM the file is useless on other media players other than windows media player and r-player.

Turns out removing the DRM is quite simple if you look around some forums.

Big thanks for replying Inertia and javboy2014. You've gone a long way to solving a lot of the mystery so really appreciate it. :D

Great suggestion about contacting the studios themselves. Have you or anyone else reading this tried this? I must admit owning physical copies would be my ideal situation but it's very expensive. Is Jlist the best option for that and has anyone had experience with them. I live in the UK so shipping costs would have to come into play also, either from Japan or the US.

Downloading is the far easier and cheaper method to acquiring movies and many studios do that on their websites although i am aware that it is not so easy to make purchases from outside of Japan. Therefore R18 still feels the best option to me by far.

Is there any other option that anyone else uses regularly? Sorry i know this thread is about DMM/R18 so i don't want to start going off on another tangent so perhaps someone could point me in the right direction and i will go from there.

There are numerous sites you can use to get all this stuff for free. Unless you're looking for something very specific like I was there's no need to use r18/dmm.
I'm in the UK too and getting stuff from Japan is bothersome. Laws prevent export of pornographic material out of the country directly but what you can do is use a japanese shipping company there to buy it for you through amazon.jp say and send it to you. The shipping cost is as much as the dvd's themselves so you'll have to pay double to get the stuff you want.

There's another problem though, there's a chance this stuff could be intercepted by UK customs and pornography dvd material is illegal. However I've heard that the shipping company will remove the covers from the DVD's or plaster anime covers to obscure the real contents.

You'll have to decide whether it's worth the hassle jumping through all these hoops.

EDIT: I've read most of the stuff that comes from the US is pirated material and burned onto CD's so the quality is going to be crappy.

Motiman: studios are run by actual human beings who love fan mail. They aren't faceless entities. They want all the sales they can get and many really are struggling now. Just contact them directly. I think simple English is better than auto-translated Japanese since the latter may make for a hard to read email.

Studios can easily remove the covers if you want before shipping. They can ship discs only.

JList is an option, but since this is the 'official' DMM thread I think it's best just to talk about mainly about their service without getting off tangents too much. Perhaps someone can make another thread about other ways to legally procure AV?

I don't know of any laws making it illegal to ship (censored) porn OUT of Japan. I know JList ships their adult items from Japan. Perhaps someone can correct me?

Receiving it on your end may be illegal depending on where you live of course.

Just a quick update: The movies are all back online, so you shouldn't see any irregularities with the number of movies on the channel or the titles available on the site or in your libraries.

And yes, supporting R18 is the best way to support many of your favorite studios directly. Many of the studios are owned by DMM so supporting DMM in turns supports the studios, in turn makes more porn possible from Japan. Many of the titles are available for less than a happy meal at McDonalds.

Yes, so if you want to support any of those studios listed on that wikipage, Ebody, Moodyz, Kirakira, S1, etc... support R18.com, so we can afford to pay these sexy JAV stars to film more sexy JAV. It's as simple as that. I also like having a paycheck to support my family, so that helps me too!

Thanks for the heads up.
Yet - some movies are still missing, but not too many. Also several of the movies which 'came back' have no streaming options. You can download them (but see below), but if you use 'Watch Movie' button, it says there are no streaming options. So the work seems to go on still...

The download speed continues to be awful. This is much worse than some weeks before. I have rates from 80 (!!) to 250 kByte/sec! This is unacceptable in the long run. Nobody wants to wait hours, using a line with 50 MBit. Please do something, R18. You are loosing out, since people will go away.
I will accept speeds of several 100 kBytes/sec each (say 750 kBytes/sec), if I can DL more than one stream. As it is now, it seems to be limited to 2 streams, each with around 150 kBytes/sec. I will not use your service at this DL rate...

Maybe you can shed some light on this matter: You say the bandwidth offered by R18 is too low. And you can only stream 2 movies at the same time. Now I'm a little bit confused.
I thought R18 is a streaming site. Means if you want to watch a movie your directly stream it from their site using their video player. So you just need enough bandwidth for being able to stream it without any glitches in the movie, right?
Or is there some kind of caching within the player software R18 uses? Means the movie is loaded to your computer and can be played after it was downloaded completely?
