I'm not a psychologist but I believe there are girls who got into AV not because they want the money, but because they crave attention and adoration.

Such girls are usually damaged in some way that they don't get enough emotional support in their life prior getting into AV, such as suffering from autism and emotional abuse. You can tell from their awkward delivery of lines outside of sex scenes. Takeda Yume is one obvious recent example, Airi Suzumura is another.

We do somewhat live in a porn culture.

Women nowadays grow up in a highly sexualized enviorment and "porn" is all around us. It's everywhere we turn. On TV, in magazines, on the internet, etc.. Even in media that is aimed at and created by women.
It's becoming so normalized that women will internalize it. It's all a part of social engineering. People often think they aren't influenced by these kind of things but the mind does pick these things up subconciously, especially so when you're brains are still developing.
Prostitution is a result of patriarchal conditioning and used to be (and still mostly is) for the underprivilaged. These women had no other choice. Nowadays it's so normal that some women link their own self worth to their sexual availability and even strive to be objectified. .
Modern feminism is a good example of this. You have slut walks, pole dancing is a sport and living in and according to the male gaze is "empowering"

Some even go as far to think the human body is an object separate from thoughts, emotions, and personality. As if selling ones body is the same as selling another product or service. Some men who sell or buy these women will tell themselves this to make them feel better about their choices... but women thinking this about themselves makes it a whole different story.
I can see how some women with mental scars will use that kind of mindset as a form of depersonalization so they can escape reality. It's almost becomes a form of self harm.

Are some of these women attention whores and after money? Most def. But we shouldn't forget that a lot of them are victims of a fucked up capatalist society that loves to sexualize and objectify women. That in combination with some personal demons can be a recipe for a disaster. These were fresh faced young girls once. They don't just wake up one day and come to the conclusion that porn is the best way to go. It takes a fucked up world view to let yourself get degraded in porn and think it's going to give you the attention you need. Like some of the girls who think they can branch out into the other side of the entertainment industry.

Never did watch any of my works before, so I cannot tell which ones are my favourite.

Worse part of the job is probably chatting and interacting with other AV girls. I'm not good with people so I get all tense up and nervous

There are ton of darker stuff out there and some probably accept it and think the happy side out of it. Some need to make a living like Tia with her kid. Not everyone can be popular like yui hatano, Jessica, akiho in their 30s playing schoolgirl to real milf. Also, not everyone can be like sora Aoi or Kirara asuka in being a diva in picking their guys and scenes for shoot in the past as well as managing a successful career in acting, modeling, and nonadult toy or doll clothing merchandise line. Yua Mikami and shoko revived their career thanks to av for now and earn much more than their previous idol career. However, av idols are still treated badly by public. Okazaki and yukiko Suo av group that wasn't muscat or the t project or idea pocket ones was attacked with trash on stage in china. Sora Aoi filmed a movie/tv drama in Korea and get harrased by the stereotypical I guess prude grandma in public during promotions. Some fans are just outright creepy in dominating to protecting and saving them or treat them as easy whore like how sakurai aya was r***ing. There's also some guy from another forum stalking shibuya. Yeah, a lot of av idols with hitomi, okita, Maria Ozawa, mihiro, sora Aoi, Saori hara, and more found happiness, but how long will it last. Despite marriage, sora Aoi like always focus in career More than her spouse and usually these marriage doesn't last long. They only show the happy side like okita who hide her spouse id while still depend running a membership social website to make extras. married av idols is harder to find work and she does have decent art skills from her art degree, but that's useless probably. Saori hara, Maria Ozawa, and sora Aoi are the steady few that found acting work or typecast in those, but different that their past sleazy av cameos. Overall, it's hard for guys to accept an av idol past especially in Asia with those taboo prude gossiping family members or friends talking about how your girl was use and seen by millions while she was still young and perky. Those bullies can be everywhere showing up from time to time to haunt you along with seeing an ex or Someone from the industry that triggers your memory or her memories.
