Short answer, because online rental sites are terrible.

I would disagree on the second point though, everything demands high def(which those wmv are not a good example of).

it does not matter what type of film it is, high quality is always better, it is like choosing meat, which do you eat old cheap rubbery, or high quality fresh and tender, and with high speed downloads, I find it great, bring it on,

Tell me about it. I'm at about 3TB of Jav now and I've even had to resort to adding a old 80GB HD in an enclosure as a temporary measure until i can afford a new drive, hell I even burned out 80 DvDs :)

Oh well, the life of someone addicted to Jav! Bring em on! I want Mooore! :)

Yes,
JAV addicted is dangerous. I am now at about 30TB of JAV....

Well what I find with JAV is that the ripped video's are not compressed in formats that can be 1/2 the size but maintain the same quality. If you can get a 720p 3 hour film in under 2.5 gigs, then I think the majority of standard definition videos can be much lower then the size they are currently at.

Basically the encoders haven't gotten with the times.
