My gf and I are interested in making some money on the side since we both have full-time jobs. Seeing the huge interest in English subtitles for JAV we figured perhaps the community may be interested in making a list of videos you would like us to translate, then have a vote and decide the order in which we should translate them.

Of course, we would like to receive some form of compensation/donation for our work. It really takes a long time to make sense of Japanese expressions, find a suitable English language equivalent, and then time subtitles.

Big thanks for the offer. Haven't had a chance yet to try out your work as i can't find a link for the movie (the torrent link you have provided is very slow and may not be fully seeded but i'll stick with it) but your subs look good from the screenshots. I tried previously to drum up interest in getting a translation done for FAJS-035 but unfortunately there was no one else interested in investing into that movie. Thankfully JAVtoENG was very generous and translated the whole movie for me for $10 through fiverr : http://www.akiba-online.com/threads...-english-subtitles.12173/page-14#post-2741078. One reason there was not enough interest is because this is the only forum i am active in and you will have to branch out to a lot more sites to get enough interest in your services.

Your idea of having a list of movies and then asking anyone who would be willing to pay voting for that movie is the best idea and one i was going to do for JAVtoENG. Of course an important factor is just how much you would charge for a translation. Another factor as you will have noticed is that Bonekace has been very generous indeed in offering up a number of sub files these last couple of weeks and to be honest i'm still behind in viewing those. He has also expressed interest in translating a movie i requested from him (IPZ-274) although it's very much his choice whether he goes through with it not. Of course by offering to pay for a translation i would be fully expecting the translation to be carried out so another question is how much time would it take to translate the movie example that i gave you above?

One last thing i would like to suggest is maybe you might want to be more discreet with your fiverr account. I don't know there site very well or what there policies are but they might not be too happy that you are offering your services for pornagraphic content. It's just a suggestion like i said but JAVtoENG was a lot more careful on his account.

Awesome Bonekace! Really happy to see a translation for this movie. Haven't seen it before but searching for it now. Eri Hosaka is one of my favourite actresses, she's just so cute and has a great figure, in fact i reviewed another of her movies here : http://www.akiba-online.com/threads...nsemination-theme.1097566/page-9#post-2723780 so you know i'm a fan of hers.

Unfortunately due to time constraints i haven't been able to view all your movies that you have posted the subs for. Still haven't watched SNIS-191 and haven't been able to find working download links for MIDE-002 or this movie although i have found some torrent links which are on the go now. Fingers crossed they are complete otherwise i'll have to put in a request for them in the relevant section.

I'm assuming you are talking about this title: DVDES-786... If so, I'm downloading the movie to provide you a better estimation based on the amount of dialogue in the movie.

At the outset I must say I wouldn't like to engage on a price war with JAVtoENG... I think it wouldn't benefit any of us.

I've seen Bonekace's work and admire what he's doing for free. Not sure for how long he can continue doing that...

I'd go as far as suggesting to the community to come up with the list of titles to translate and even split the work equally among JAVtoENG, Bonekace and ourselves. In this way we could produce more to the benefit of everyone and ourselves.

I'm thinking that if Akiba-Online has at least 1,000 members and at least 10% of them contribute at any given time with only 1 USD per title, then I think it would be a win-win situation for all parties involved (i.e., us the translators and the community interested in understanding what's going on in a movie).

I trust we can all work something out.

Thanks for getting back so quickly. I genuinely am not trying to instigate some kind of price war and apologize if that is what it came across as. I did suggest after JAVtoENG had given me the price of $40 to translate FAJS-035 that it would only take 40 of us to pay $1 as you mention but perhaps people just weren't that interested in that one movie which is why i think your idea of a vote would work much better. Does Fiverr allow you to change the price of your work or, as it suggests in it's name, is it only jobs for $5?

We should be able to have some sort of Kickstarter to submit a video we wish to see translated and once it receives enough funds by the community, then proceed to translate it.

I also thought about that various times. If it is for collecting money or for such great people like Bonekace which provide it for free. I don't think that is a good way that some people post there wishlists for several reasons.

Alternatively (or rather as a complement to the idea above to be more productive), since it takes forever to time a movie, some of us should be able to provide the translation to English with Romaji, while others actually do the work of timing the subtitles.

Timing JAV titles from Romaji is not that difficult. Then, the timed Romaji subtitle can be easily replaced by the English subtitle.

If anybody knows (or can put together) an alternative for JAV it would be fantastic.

I guess that's called a (fan-)subbing group. As all are working together the individual has less work to do and the motivation is maybe higher - especially over a longer period of time.

I downloaded the video and counted the number of scenes. I counted 13 scenes (give or take).

If you are interested, I think we can translate it for the same rate JAVtoENG mentioned, that is, 10 USD per scene.

Thanks for checking out the movie and getting back to me. $130 is a lot of money and certainly not something i can afford to pay myself but i also understand that it's something that takes a lot of time and effort. I would be willing to make contributions through fiverr but it's going to take a lot more people who are willing to do so as well. If anyone is interested in contributing a few bucks towards a translation of DVDES-786 then let yourself be known. I'll try to drum up some more interest on other sites i know and see what happens from there.

Is it okay with the site administrators if i start a new thread in the Jav discussion section so that this topic is more visible and hopefully make it a lot easier to gain interest in getting interested parties together.

On a side note, could anyone enlighten me as to what is written here on this book.

It would be nice to have some kind of platform on which everyone can add the movies which he / she wanted to have subtitles - and how much he / she would contribute (means money) for it. If the money is reached which is necessary the subtitle will be created. If more money is contributed than necessary the contribution of everyone will get smaller (means it will get cheaper for the ones who are willing to give money). This way it would be easier to know for the subtitle guys which movies to translate.

I've seen Akiba-online has a survey feature... Anybody knows where are the instructions for that?

I'd like to setup two surveys to gauge community interest in funding JAV translations by donating 1 USD, and a second one requesting input on titles the community would like to see translated.

Or should I just use a Google Survey?

The problem would be that you have to start a survey for each movie. And there should be only one option each time: "Interested" - as the uninterested people are not relevant.
I've never worked with Google Survey, but based on what I read it is really about creating surveys. But don't we need something like kickstarter instead?

I guess "Question 2" would be the problem as everyone would post lists of movies. And then you have to evaluate this lists. Would be cool if they would be more automatic.
It would be also nice if someone adds a movie which is already translated wouldn't be listed a second time and that person would get a info like "hey, guy, here is already a sub available".
But these are just my 50 cents.

What I'm thinking is the following:

1. To get an idea of the number of people interested/willing to fund the translation of JAV videos, I would first ask:

Question 1: Would you donate 1 USD to have a JAV video translated to English? Yes or No?

2. To identify candidate movies for translation, I would ask:

Question 2: Suggest a movie you would like to see translated. (Provide movie code and link to torrent file.)

From the second question, we would identify videos that for whatever reason people want to see translated.

Videos thus identified (say 5-10) would go to a second (or third) survey to identify the order in which they should be translated according to the number of votes each one of them receives.

After the order of translation has been identified, then we would actually "kickstart" (i.e. fund the translation of) each video. If a video receives enough funding within a given time then we (meaning those of us who can do the translation) will proceed to produce the translation.

What do you guys think? Does it make sense?

Exactly that is the problem. If we all follow your pattern we will have a lot of different threads in no time. And some of these threads will also contain the same movies. So I don't think that this is a solution - at least not a good or practical one.
But let's see what happens.

Also we have now more than one translator. Another point. So who will translate what?

I am trying to get things set up again, in a better way this time. I would like to form the group on akiba-online, and use the site as a fansub-backup/publicity thing

I was thinking of creating two things on the site:

Payment system to the translators/workers - donations in the form of paypal/bitcoins etc, advertising revenue, file host revenue. Donate with a request.

Voting system - I guess I could create a message box on the website everyone could send the titles they are interested in, I'll place 5-8 titles into a poll and everyone can vote on them each week, top 1-2 will be allocated to a current projects list, and be translated

If anyone is interested in working on this (translators/IT), do send me a message

If I could get as many translators on my list so I know who is interested and available, that would be great
