Kickstarter has been incredibly successful for other things (video games, tabletop games, films, even watches, you name it), so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work with porn.

Short article about our mysterious crowdfunded girl featuring a few more photos of her :-

https://sirabee.com/2018/01/18/20161461066/

Besides the usual political correct answer to where she is from and why is she entering the trade, the more interesting quote is that a top contracted talents needs about 3000 copies of each of her releases preordered for it to be considered a success. And our girl gets 30% of the total sales if the crowdfund effort is successful.

So we have another round of arrest made concerning coercion into filming with one studio owner and an agency's head of operation taken in. To cut things short, they forced a girl to film an uncensored release back in 2015 and imply that she needs to compensate for the publicity expenditure in cash if she didn't comply.

What's interesting about this round of arrest is that the prosecution officially slap the trio arrested with the rare charge of "淫行勧誘罪", which translate more or less as "Sextortion for monetary gains", whereas In previous cases, it's usually comes to labour abuse. In this case, the charge can be amount to r*** depending how one might argue about it and the accused can be sent to jail instead of a fine for labour abused.

if an average looking girl is already in the 3k preorder range, when they try it with a hot girl, that'll blow up faster

The fact that she is asking for about USD 60,000 for her cut already hints at everything being a stunt. It's more believable if she ask for twice as much.

Japanese Police Force wants to "cleanse/purify" the AV industry and a conference organized by them for all AV producers is schedule for February, probably to address and formally announce their intention.

So how do people here feel about if the police were to get involve in AV production and releases instead of just reacting to complaints ?

doubt the police can do much as long as the industry follows the laws, if more regulations are put in then that's a different story, but right now they shouldn't be able to do crap. Also doing the stuff with the school themes, and loli stuff it won't do shit to help out there perception unless they also go after the anime mainstream, because they do so much shit that's seen way more then the relatively tiny JAV industry

Sounds more like the police want to give some agencies/studios (who are they meeting? IPPA heads?) a refresher on the laws. Article seems more like a summary of what's happened rather than what may or may not come.

The way I see it is that someone is forcing the cops to act since real people complaint that they got hurt and scarred by the AV industry. No one said that they got hurt by some fictitious drawings and animations. Since the cops have the manpower to spare with the ongoing Yakuza civil war, some politicians think that they could put them to use to further their agenda and win votes.

I don't know. Could be nothing but a slap on the wrist like you said. But going by the charge they dropped on the suspects in the recent arrest, which had not been used for about 70 years that some lawyers had nearly forgotten about it btw, they seem hellbent on their intent.

cops though really can't do crap if the industry is following the laws, there are bad apples, sure but that's like that they'll get put in jail, but not much else they can do

Maybe they feel there's a loophole somewhere in the current laws and wants to patch it up ? Some closer supervision to ensure that all production meet the current standard so that there will be no complaints ?

I doubt they have any legal right to supervise anything, it's just a bunch of bs.Like what are they going to do? Japan has there laws and regulations and unless the police know they are breaking them, they can't do anything. If they tried, then the industry can just play it off like the police are trying to extort them, and that would be a much bigger headline that Japan wouldn't want before the olympics

and the second part
"Ross Spano, who introduced the bill, told the Christian Post in November. He’s also running for state attorney general."
so that's just typical politician bs, Porn is the easiest thing to target and will get him a bunch of easy voters. Also a declaration won't do crap, other states have done so and what has it done? if you can't affect the California Market, then they're just spreading blank statements

I reckon that agents of the government have more to say on the law than an industry who toe on the grey area of it when it comes down to the line. Of course, the police will not act unless they have sufficient evidence to do so.

The 2nd point is, I do not know if it is a coincidence that similar incident where politicians on both side of the pacific are taking potshots at porn now. Because everyone technically having easy access to them for the past decade or so and they have just became aware of it ?

jwlim: politicians in USA have been taking shots at porn for decades. Nothing new there. I don't think you'll see porn production in USA nor Japan reduced. If anything, porn is now more mainstream than ever.

Sushigoround: Tatamae for sure. Good way to sum this all up.

Mainstreaming of porn, I can agree. But how much do you attribute the trend to the prolification of Smart Devices ?

I remember 2012 being the year where smartphones and tablets really took off with teens getting their hands on them. I'm not sure if I should be surprise that the Governments took this long to formulate a respond to porn becoming the non-spoken norm now.

In the case of Japan, no, I don't think there will be a outright ban. If anything, there will be a smear campaign to paint the industry as a dark one with all scandals reported in the media in an effort to cut down the recruitment rates. Which is happening now. They might reduce the exposure by enforcing that no AV related materials are to be displayed in public.

What you will see in the future is perhaps less amateur releases with more emphasis on B-Grade and Graveur crossover talents.

For a long time the government has half assed taken attempts to mess with porn, and haven't had any success What they are trying to do won't do anything.

second part
100% doubt that, heck even if your hypothetical smear campaign works then there will be a crap ton more amateurs(because it'll go underground), and no B-grade/Gravure idol would risk there career doing that(if your hypothetical works) it would be career suicide going to a "dark" industry full of scandals. Sex trade/ porn industry the recruitment rates will never go down, it'll probably just increase recruitment drives

Well, if the current crackdown in Japan is anything to go by, it's certainly having it's impact.

And you are right in a sense that while we might not see more nameless amateurs with the studios, they will still be present on other independent platforms such as FC2.

Regarding the B grade/gravure idols, I assume most of them already know how the entertainment work and perhaps even have experience with the likes of Weinstein-like figures. So they will know what to expect after making the transistions to being a AV talents.

No time to write out even 1/10 of my thoughts on this. But let's see if I can write a few words with the few minutes left...

First saying: @jwlim80 is again off on his own hyperbole and wild speculation, I could write a big post attacking some of his points. But I won't ... partly because overall, he's not wrong to worry at least a bit.

Until this latest round, I'm more with @paparoach408 and @Inertia the more things change the more they stay the same. All the signs were that the wave of enforcement has peaked, the authority's huffing and puffing is almost over and the industry do a lot of hand-waving to pretend to address the problem. The various lawsuits and cases would still have to wind down but they will.

But this latest round shows the authority has NOT moved on. They are still targeting JAV. And there's a huge question if they are going after only the bad apples or exploiting the bad apples to target the whole JAV enterprise.

Not knowing Japanese myself... but I think jwlim80 totally mistranslated "淫行勧誘罪" and underestimated how worrisome it might be. jwlim80 seems to think "r***" charge would be a next level (more serious) criminal prosecution. But "淫行勧誘罪" is actually more dangerous to the industry then either labor law or r***/sexual assault. I would translate "淫行勧誘罪" as "solicitation for an immoral activity". Why is it much worse than r***? Well if it's labor law violation or r***, then it's clear how the industry can clean up, just get rid of the bad apples and their coercive practice. Make sure the girls understand and give consent and make document of the consent (not just getting a signature on a piece of paper, but to video-tape it). No problem, it's already how the industry is supposed to work. The problem is just some agents bend the rules or violate industry practice. But this "solicitation for an immoral activity" this law that has not been invoked for decades. This means even with perfectly given and documented consent, shooting and selling a JAV is still a crime and an immoral activity.

Today I just read another article from our standard source that the industry is now worried the authority is trying to devolve the industry back to pre-1990s status: simulated sex only. That means Japanese laws would be as strict or even stricter than Taiwan and Hong Kong.

At the risk of sounding like a madman, that is JAV Apocalypse.
