My intention was to share my thoughts on a JAV I thought was really spectacular - not in terms of satisfying base desires, but as far as how it reminded me of a real movie. The intelligence, the professionalism, the acting caliber, the attention to detail, and other aspects that actually may sometimes get in the way of enhancing our prurient interests.
I then thought of broadening the scope of this thread with my headline, opting for the plural of JAV, which is otherwise misleading - as I only have one such example to tell you about. I invite you to come up with others.
Just because this one grabbed me does not mean it will prove to be your cup of tea, certainly, given how our tastes vary. Try to bear in mind what I'm focusing on is cinematic value, and not what provides our hoo-hahs.
Hot Springs Resort Proprietress - Mother-Daughter Gang r*** Assault [HAVD-183], with Yukari Katayama & Rika Kagaku
Yukari-young landlady lost a husband, has been established along with the hot spring inn Kirimori the only daughter of Rika. One day, three men come to ask but asking for repayment of 50 million. It was the beginning of the tragedy .... Definitive edition of AV drama depicting a mother and daughter go make love to the mercy of the debt! !
Before moving to the meat of the matter, allow me to take a moment explaining how I came by this very rare movie. See, on another thread, I mumbled, in a "by the way" manner, how tough this 2005 movie was to find, and then, like a knight in shining armor (which truly points to his valor, as most metals conduct electricity), Member Electromog revealed he came by the rarity, and would I like to have it? For God's sake, that was so giving, and so very cool of him, wasn't it? I say, hip hip hooray toward this jolly good fellow. I say, four cheers to Electromog, because the traditional three cheers are not enough. (I'm also going to tell you, I say, how you can also take advantage of Electromog's generosity, if you so choose, and you are going to agree with me he carries not one volt that is at fault.)
I also feel compelled to add the disclaimer that I can be pretty partial to mother-daughter porn, when done right, because real mothers and daughters would get very antsy about revealing their sexual sides to one another, and what a delightful taboo this fantasy is to revel in. But that is not what made me sit up and take notice about this movie. So grab a chair, take off your shoes, and let me tell you about what made the film so special.
First of all, the casting was marvelous. Even the men were good, but let's focus on the stars.

Yukari Katayama and Rika Kagaku
To my mind, the daughter often takes a back seat in mother-daughter movies (the mom expected to play the pivotal role of parental protector), but Rika filled the bill very nicely in coming across as a sweet and quiet innocent - without needing to don a sailor suit.
But Yukari was magnificent. As an actress, you didn't need to comprehend her spoken language to understand she really had what it takes. As a woman, she may not be the model of pulchritudinous perfection, but she is... sexy!
(It seems HAVD-183 is the only movie both have starred in, and neither has been in much of anything else. How sad, I would have enjoyed seeing more of Yukari, especially.)
The special quality of HAVD-183 lies with how the story is told in compelling fashion, and in a very realistic manner. With the great casting, we can believe at the outset this pair is a mother and daughter, given their appearances (unlike other examples, where the chosen actresses may practically pass for sisters), and given their behavior.
They do not break character. Yukari, especially, conveys throughout that she is a real mother, and we can feel her anguish.
Yukari plays a widow, and apparently is struggling to maintain her hot springs joint. As the description tells us, she may be fifty million in arrears (little more than half a mil in greenbacks), and it's not long before the Yakuza yahoos show up at her doorstep. (As the ordeal progresses, in fact, one of the bad men keeps shoving a paper for the threatened proprietress to sign; the baddies are probably demanding that she sign over her establishment, to settle the debt.)
The little touches are what make this one a step ahead of the usual. As the black sedans pull up (gangsters always ride in black cars), Yukari's staff looks concerned. In the usual porn, you could expect the staff men to have their turn at the female victims too, but the filmmakers are playing it straight, here.
One of the staff personnel is played by The Golden Archer - so named because he is everywhere, like McDonald's, and is near his golden years, as you may recognize from the second photo (from his appearance in CETD-068) - but in this movie he looks robust.
The story takes time to develop; our heroines don't get threatened at first arrival of the gangsters, we only get a taste of their menace. It is the second time when the gangsters pull out the fireworks, and as luck would have it, the mother and the daughter would just happen to be relaxing in their hot spring, vulnerably naked. (Although the story allows them to not get caught with their pants down; see what I mean?)
As an aside, it was almost amusing to see the criminals, upon their second visit, to... take off their shoes, before entering the premises! Those Japanese are such considerate folks.
One of the bad guys bears a striking resemblance to the British porn star Mark Davis ("Sex and Submission"), down to the build, the bald head and the gray-haired goatee.
Luckily, he takes off his sunglasses at one point, and we can see he is Japanese (Who is he? Never saw him before, but he was good).
It is the poor daughter who is in the eye of the gangsters' hurricane, at first.
Before it gets to be her turn, and having witnessed the horror of her daughter getting ransacked, Yukari has lost some of her heart, and is disheveled; she's very sexy when her hair is down.
Always welcome to get the forced lesbianism in a mother-daughter movie, needless to say.
To complete the picture, we even get an ending with HAVD-183, the kind not typical of porn. Let us say the ending may have warmed the heart of Director Abel Ferrara.
Below is the freeze frame finale, and the producers actually... rolled credits? When did you ever see that happening in a JAV? It seemed they gave credit to everybody, probably even to the "bit part" elderly cook that you saw in the photo above (with the Golden Archer). It's almost as though they were telling us, this is not your usual porn, people. What we've got is a real movie!
Okay; this is the point where you're going to feel gratitude toward Electromog. Not only did he make this very rare movie available, he sweetly chose, at my suggestion, the free direct downloader's best friend, Mega links.

I liked this movie so much, I did something I never did before with JAV - look into other works of the director. (DMM did not provide his credit, but the director was actually named on the cover; however, I could not make out the small-print name. Privately, Electromog to the rescue! Katsuyuki Hasegawa, 長谷川勝之). Naturally, Katsuyuki was bound to the script, so I would not expect lightning to strike too many times with the rest of his output.
Now you might be asking me, Jugulear... what kind of a ridiculous moniker is that? And then the second question you might be asking me is, so what? What's so special about HAVD-183 anyway? Isn't there a lot of JAV that is well made?
You would have a good point. For example, when I once touched on a comparison between JAV and stupid American porn, I picked out an example of a JAV almost at random, the excellent RBD-295. There is so much great JAV that does not insult the intelligence of the viewer.
All I can say is that this one made a dent on me; while I was watching, I kept thinking, HAVD-183 is like a real movie. Plus smut.
Where there is smoke, there is fire, and the HIBINO company has a distressed mother-daughter series - which HAVD-183 officially is not a part of, according to DMM. The DMM-provided "Mother-Daughter r*** Hell" series is comprised of HBAD-028, FUTD-051, HAVD-428, most just as seemingly impossible to get, unless you have an Electromog in your corner. (Member Grisa has made the last one available on his Smalljav site, as well as once in the archives, with now-dead links, and I am planning on downloading it.)
Yet from a compilation movie (HAVD-673, equally tough to find), which had provided covers on its box's cover, we can see the others, besides HAVD-183, are HAVD 455 and HAVD 459. (The only other one from the series that I have is the last; it has recently been offered here as a torrent.)
EDIT: Quick report on HAVD-428, mentioned in the previous paragraph - I completed the download and fast-forwarded, to get an idea. Maybe the distinguishing characteristic of the three from the "official" DMM-sourced series (based also on how Asian Screens termed the title of FUTD-051, Disgrace of Mother and Daughter- Done in Front of Her Daughter) is that the mother and daughter are not together, save for when the daughter is forced to watch (a scene lasting very briefly, here). The mother-daughter distinction is not as apparent with both youthful actresses, and the overall execution of the film seems ordinary. At least the villains include Tenant and Rugged Man, although the former gets unnecessarily psychotic with the mom at the end.
