Keep up the good work. How is the translation initiated? In case of music it is there no matter if Apple sells it or not. But subtitles are produced if there is a demand or - in case of other fan subs - if the fan sub group feels like they want to sub it.
Does that mean that the translators can make money in any height - as long as their subs sell well? Means if someone subs something not so mainstream that person will maybe making only a few bucks. But if someone subs something mainstream that person can make hundreds of it?
In my opinion also people who sub titles without a high demand should be paid accordingly to their work / efforts (if it is not a fan sub made for free). And I feel somehow odd about the other case because that is already on a very professional level. In this case maybe that person or group should open a company, using a professional website as well as professional tools.

I took a quick look at some of the files but found the translations pretty poor; more of the standard google translation capabilities
Moreover the ass files only carry the english terms.
Very very far from what Bonekace provides. Tons of kudos to his marvelous job and dedication to this forum.
With this new year, my 2cts worth contribution around sharing subtitle files:
Why don't we create a google mail account like "javengsubs@gmail.com" with a password we would post on this forum so that anyone could access it.
Then we could "mail" the sub files to that account along with a short description or link to cover/screens/actors... of each related movie. This would remove the unavailability / waiting times of some file sharing sites.

I second all you say and did also edit some files to enhance /fix the english but for my own use at this point.
I agree also that we could find an easier way to share the work and proposed to setup a gmail account , disclosing its password on this forum, where people could mail their contributions.
We could also use dropbox...
To me the romaji text is useful because it allows me to "learn" and be able to grab some understanding of movies without subtitles. I also use it to enhance my "hearing" capabilities as my ability to transcript what I "hear" is far from being acceptable to even think about being able to contribute accurately to a translation effort.

Not sure about quality and the subs are hardcoded but fans can look for "jpn vintage 877" on xhamster as this seems to have some english subs. ~100mbs/ 20 mns
Android has also such a function. And even Skype will have that soon. I saw a video for the Google translator on Android as well as the online translation for Skype. And in both cases they showed the translation from English to German and from German to English. I guess I know why they have chosen that scenario:
Both are Germanic languages and they have a very close relationship. All translators so far have big problems to do a correct translation. And the translation gets worse the less related the languages are. I guess the problem is that the computer doesn't have the background a human has. E.g. a human knows what an apple or an orange is. A computer doesn't know that. Therefore it gets hard for it to get out the correct meaning of a sentence.

Just curious if anybody knows if this is just fiction or is it meant to give some insight into how the JAV industry operates?
I talked to jz00hj about translating DVDES-786, since its scored so high on the community poll. He said it would cost 140 dollars to complete, not counting translating the dialog in the sex scenes. I've already sent him 20 dollars, and anyone else that would like to see this get done ought to contact him and send funds to his email, joseunitec@hotmail.com, within the next 15 days.

I remember that someone wanted $10 per scene for the translation. But it wasn't jz00hj. $100 sounds somehow a lot.
But maybe this movie has more scenes or more text. Did he say how many hours will it take (no, this is not a rhetorical question, I'm really interested
)?And $20 dollars - this is also a lot for a single person.
It would be better if more people - I mean a lot more - would join in so everyone has only to pay $1 or $2.

cheers, interesting review. I was also struck at the lack of sleaze in the production ( although of course this can be a generalisation) of JAV.
I've seen some behind the scene doccies of western porn and it really turned my stomach.
Was also interested in the way the director told the girl to look into the camera happily, I think this highlighted another superior aspect of JAV in that they take the time to get the emotions of the girl right so she is comfortable and that comes through in her performance.
All in all an interesting film.
Also this movie is fictional to some extend it bases also on some real experience of a JAV actress. I have to admit that I didn't watch the whole movies - only some parts. But I was somehow down afterwards. It was her decision to do all of that. She put all her priorities in her career. So it is hard to sympathise with her. But it is still sad how she looses all her loved ones one by one because of her career (means she loses the relationships - no one dies in that movie).
Yea I was expecting the "hard lesson" at the end of the movie, however I thought it was less harsh than what you would find from a western perspective in porn where the star of the movie would probably end up on drugs or dead. Instead there was a slight message of empowerment where she rose above those who condemned her.
It was interesting to see how she was ostracized because of going into JAV , since I know so little about Japan I only know that JAV stars usually expand into acting and music careers, so I assumed that they were not ostracized.
Another thing I found interesting was how the director would tell her to be happy because it would make the viewers happy. JAV seems to have the audience in mind, and the usual Japanese ethos of - whatever you do, do it well - whereas in the west the ethos is more - just fuck her in the ass guys just want to jerk off to this.
$180 instead of $100 - ehm, okay. Seems it is more work than you first thought.
Next thing: Paying $1 or $2 is totally ridiculous if the fee is $1.23. In this case PayPal makes more money than jz00hj.
I guess that also buries also the idea of everyone paying $1 or $2. First we need 90 to 180 members. And somehow I don't think that this will be possible.
