JavLuv JAV Browser

I thought I'd mention a technique I use when JavLuv can't find actress names in online databases. There is not a one to one correlation between the original Japanese name and English translations. I've learned through trial and error about alternate English spellings.

As an example, I recently found and actress named Yuu Anzu wasn't being located online. This is where you can use the "alternate names", not only for actual alternate names, but alternate spellings as well. So I tried Yū and Yu, and the actress; data was found next time I tried "Update actress".

Hibiki Otsuki is another good example. She has alternate names of Hibiki Ōtsuki and Hibiki Ootsuki. I think the pattern of double vowels can substitute with single letters or sometimes accented vowels. So, give that a try next time JavLuv can't find actress details, and maybe you'll have better luck.

If the romaji(Hibiki Ōtsuki), which would be the correct name, has the - on top of a letter(macron), most official sources will write it without the -(Hibiki Otsuki) since that's not part of the english alphabet I'm assuming, but many people(aka those filling the databases) will write it with the letter doubled(Hibiki Ootsuki) since that's closer to the way it is pronounced.

From google: "The macron denotes a long vowel. Long a, o and u sounds are usually written with macrons as ā, ō and ū. The notation "ou" or "oo" is sometimes used for a long "ō", following kana spelling practices. Long e and i sounds are usually written ei /ee and ii, but in neologisms are instead written with macrons as ē and ī."

So you even have the chance of seeing a 4th spelling with the o(Hibiki Outsuki).

I think you need to tell TmpGuy more clearly about what you mean, because I too don't really understand your statements.
In my understanding about your problem, you have around 6000 movies and you have all of its cover pictures from other source than JavLuv, and now you want to use JavLuv to organize your movies, but JavLuv not recognized those covers? Is this what you mean?

In my experience using JavLuv, when I move my movies (along with its covers and nfo files) to another storage, I just rescan the whole folders and everything are available again in JavLuv without any problem.
OK let me try to explain. I had an issue with my system setup was HDD and luckily i could retrive the movie Folder. However i had to install Windows again on a new HDD and lost all data from the old. After installing JAVLUV again and pointing to my new movie Folder i rescanned of cause and it started to retrieve new Metadata and the pictures from the internet what took more than a day instead of using the Movie ID pictures i had already on my HDD in the Movie Folder.
So my issue is Why can it not use the Local Pictures what are correctly named with Movie ID

I'm not sure why it's not working. As long as the image file is next to the movie file (in the same folder), and is named similarly (with the ID somewhere in the name), JavLuv should recognize the image as the associated movie cover during the scanning process, or when rescanning files via the context menu.

can i get rid of date s data ?? i dont want to see it or as least make it in the last
i want to see id-code first

OK, comes so i had to do it again and i made some pictures. I moved all my movies out of the single folders to the base folder. I did this because i had all my .ass files laying in the base folder and wanted to get them into the single movie folders. Anyway thats a diffent issue.
Please see the pictures i uploaded. Test for new update picture show the movie AARM-158 getting the .nfo and .webp file scraped from the net. Test for the update 2 show the AARM-158 .nfo and .webp file already in the movie folder. SO why does it have to scrape again ?

This is a small request for Tmpguy. In the grand scheme of things it is pretty insignificant but, that said, When doing repettitive tasks within Javluv the back button/arrow does not get activated with my back button on my mouse so I have to click the arrow each time. Of course this is pretty trivial however when doing a lot of repettitive tasks this would be a useful feature. if it is not a big coding issue perhaps that could be addressed in a future iteration. Thanks, as always, Tmpguy for your hard work.

Great tool. Don't think I will use the restructuring as I like all movie files in the same folder, but the ability to search actresses is great.

How do you LOCK single movies to avoid movie Title and pictures getting overwritten.

There's no such function, but any destructive actions are hidden behind advanced functions or require user actions. At some point, I'd like to add a way to backup and restore movie and actress data, but that's still on the to-do list.

Sounds handy, and might not be hard to do. I'll put it on the to-do list.

Honestly, not sure why that's happening. It may be a bug, if I understand you correctly. If you can send me the logs for these tests, I might have a better idea of what's going on.

A load of my files have hard coded subs and a tag in the file name (eg. [English Subtitles], [ENG], [ENG SUBS] etc) - is there any chance of having recognition of this added? Would be good to be able to filter or see which files have subs and which don't (sometimes I feel like reading, sometimes I don't).

Would also be great if we could filter/search by genre/tag? Can't seem to do that.

Also - is there a way to have the app remove movies that you've deleted from your HDD? I thought doing a new search would do the job, but it doesn't I know I can manually edit the file, but that's not ideal; and Ive tried rebuilding the DB, but then it re-downloads all the actresses.

With respect o removing movies that you've deleted from the hdd, if you right click on the cover image, since you've already removed the movie, click delete metadata, that will remove the cover/nfo data from Javluv's database. This may not be practical if you have a bunch of deleted videos and I don't think there's a way to do it en-masse but this works for me. One other little trick. Sometimes you will have video that has no cover associated with it so when you try to delete it it will error out. The solution , at least for me is first associate an image with that title, it doesn't matter what, then right click on the image and click delete movie. As for you question about the English subs , if that is indicated in the actual filename that information will be listed at the bottom of the screen. Also if the filename has Sub or Eng or subs or whatever in the filename you can use the search feature to search for "sub" or "eng". I have a habit of having all of my subbed titles in One folder and then I use "renamer" (a great little free file renaming unility) to append --Subtitled to the end of the file name, that makes it very easy to search for them in Javluv or explorer or whatever... I hope that helps..

Did you see the "Hard subtitled" checkbox in the movie details page? That's the support for hard-subbed movies JavLuv currently has. Soft subtitles are automatically detected.

I'm thinking about adding more support for name-based tagging in a future update, which might include hard subtitles, different movie variations, etc. Not sure when I can get to that though.

JavLuv can search and filter based on pretty much any field, including genre tags. You can read the Wiki for more advanced search techniques as well.

If you check Advanced options in settings, you get some additional options, such as Delete movie and Delete metadata. If those don't work, just delete manually and Remove from library.

My issue in this sense is that I've found a load of Movies that I have twice. Ideally I'd like to just delete the video, refresh the directory and have those that are dupes removed - but there's no simple way to do this?

Yep, I saw the hard sub checkbox, but with 100s of movies, it's laborious to go through and check those with subs - that's the whole point, to have the software do that for me.

Regarding the search, stupid me just found the search box - however it would be good if we could double click tags in movie descriptions, as we can actresses etc?

Actually I found an easily recreatable bug too:
i) Clicking the left and right arrows to scroll through your collection
ii) Double click an actress
iii) Go back to the Movie/Title that had her in it (you should be back to scrolling through your collection)
iv) If you now use the arrows to scroll your collection it only scrolls through that actress
