JavLuv JAV Browser

Actually I found an easily recreatable bug too:
i) Clicking the left and right arrows to scroll through your collection
ii) Double click an actress
iii) Go back to the Movie/Title that had her in it (you should be back to scrolling through your collection)
iv) If you now use the arrows to scroll your collection it only scrolls through that actress
I may be misunderstanding, but in iii), if you double-clicked the original movie from within the actress view instead of using the back button, then this is working as designed. The idea of the left and right scroll buttons is that you're scrolling through the previous collection you were viewing. So yes, you'll only see the movies with that actress in it, because you were just viewing only the movies with that actress is it. It works the same way if you use keywords to restrict your collection to a subset - the left and right arrows in the detail view will scroll through the filtered collection.

Yep, I saw the hard sub checkbox, but with 100s of movies, it's laborious to go through and check those with subs - that's the whole point, to have the software do that for me.

Regarding the search, stupid me just found the search box - however it would be good if we could double click tags in movie descriptions, as we can actresses etc?

Sure, anything's possible. I've got a massive list of future feature suggestions, and I'm slowly working though them. I generally don't make any promises about if or when new features will be implemented though, since it's just me on this project, and I can only do the work in my spare time.

My issue in this sense is that I've found a load of Movies that I have twice. Ideally I'd like to just delete the video, refresh the directory and have those that are dupes removed - but there's no simple way to do this?

There really isn't a "detect and delete dupes" function in JavLuv, because it kind of tries to prevent you from adding dupes in the first place. By default, it should give you an error if you try to import a movie with an identical ID. I'm kind of curious how you're ending up with dupes in the first place.

Or do you just mean they're on your hard drive and not necessarily imported into JavLuv yet? If so, you can find a lot of dupe-detector software out there to do this for you.

With respect o removing movies that you've deleted from the hdd, if you right click on the cover image, since you've already removed the movie, click delete metadata, that will remove the cover/nfo data from Javluv's database. This may not be practical if you have a bunch of deleted videos and I don't think there's a way to do it en-masse but this works for me. One other little trick. Sometimes you will have video that has no cover associated with it so when you try to delete it it will error out. The solution , at least for me is first associate an image with that title, it doesn't matter what, then right click on the image and click delete movie. As for you question about the English subs , if that is indicated in the actual filename that information will be listed at the bottom of the screen. Also if the filename has Sub or Eng or subs or whatever in the filename you can use the search feature to search for "sub" or "eng". I have a habit of having all of my subbed titles in One folder and then I use "renamer" (a great little free file renaming unility) to append --Subtitled to the end of the file name, that makes it very easy to search for them in Javluv or explorer or whatever... I hope that helps..

Yes, I have run into this issue myself. What I have been doing, while navigating in JavLuv is when there are multiple versions of the same video I will click on the small folder icon to the left of the file name(S) and first check to make sure that they are in fact dupes, sometimes there's an a and b or 1 and 2 where the movie has been split so I check that they are in fact dupes and then delete one of them. I've not found a way to update Javluv, which I think is what you're after. it would be good to be able to update JAVluv's database to reflect that change automatically as soon as you remove the dupe(s). My method is to delete the dupe, then delete the metada for that file and then rescan that folder, the rescan will only update the file that you removed the metada for. You could also make a project of removing multiple dupes and then do , remove the corresponding metada, then rescan. These are problems that I just do the best I can with but I definitely have run into this issue. Good luck.

I'm just tossing out a thought. When I encounter an file in Javluv, if I find a file that has no cover image the process is that I have to open my browser, search for an image, download it then go to Javluv and import that image. Maybe this is impractical for a variety of reasons but this process could be greatly reduced by having the "import Cover" option link to either my own browser or a rudimentary browser so I could do the process in one step. I get a LOT of files that don't get covers (mostly older titles) so this would be a nice option, not necessary of course but just food for thought . Cheers.

Your browser should already have a "copy image" function. I made a stab at pasting the image in JavLuv, but it doesn't work very consistently. I should get this working properly, as I think this would simplify the process quite a bit. I also need to fix the issue that the context menu in movie detail view doesn't appear if there is no image showing already.

Yes, but the point is that I'm clicking "back" to go back to the list of movies that I was in. As I'm now back in my original list of all movies, it shouldn't limit me to that actress.

Basically it's keeping me in the actress list after I click back, to go back to the full list.

Oh, I see what you're describing now. Yeah, that's a bug all right. The problem is that the internal scroll list of movies isn't regenerated until you return to the browser view, so you're seeing the previous one which just shows the actress' movies. I'll have to think about how to fix this. Thanks for the report!

Can you also make it possible when we play random movie, the browser automatically open the selected movie? I think it will be useful in some case when we need to see the detail of the movie. But when clicking the back button, it would retain the last filter/scroll position. Thank you.

Sure, I think that would be pretty easy to implement. The scroll position and filters are already retained unless you advance more than one level deep. For example, if you double-click on an actress from the detail view, the original browser scroll position would be reset. That's a bug I'd like to fix, but no promises on that one. This would be a non-default option you can set in Settings, since that's behavior I wouldn't care to use myself, I think.

I'm also guessing by "random" you mean "arbitrary" movie, not only when you are filtering by random?

Yes, I think that is enough. It's just a bit hassle when we are scrolling and need to see the detail of some movie. We need to scroll back down again to continue where it was.

What I mean is the function of playing a random movie. For example, I filter "prestige" then select all movies, right click --> play random movie, the browser still stay at browser view, It would be better if the browser change to detail view about the movie which is currenty played.

i have some western movies, i want add to javluv , how to do it ? scan file first or edit rename file manually ? because javluv cant detect western movie...

Oh, I get it. Yeah, I can see that being useful. I was mentally stuck on the "Random" movie ordering, which made less sense. When you pick a random movie to play, it might be nice to get some additional information about which movie was played.

I'm still trying to decide if this should be non-optional, a default option, or non-default option. If anyone has opinions on this, let me know.

JavLuv is pretty specifically designed just for mainstream Japanese adult videos. The entire benefit of JavLuv is being able to organize your collection and search based on metadata. You'd have to enter everything by hand, and give the title a fake ID of some sort. Honestly, it doesn't seem worth it to me.

I've considered maybe adding some support for an internal browser, or some way of organizing western movies, random Jav clips, or non-mainstream JAV movies into collections of some sort, but honestly, it wouldn't be much better than just organizing them in folders and using file explorer.

So, maybe someday, but no promises on that sort of support.

I don't understand the difference between those options, but in my opinion it would be better if there is a checkbox to enable/disable the feature in the Settings.

I like the idea of being able to add JAV clips to JavLuv. What I sometimes do to save on disk space, is cut a specific scene from a movie and keep only that. I also have random JAV clips that I like (e.g. user created compilations and such). It would be nice to be able to add those to JavLuv somehow. I can imagine having a tile under the actress view on JavLuv that links to clips featuring that actress. Managing metadata would be mostly a manual thing, but still. I think it would actually be better than just organizing in folders and use Explorer, because of the nice interface of JavLuv and it being the central hub for me and my JAV collection. You know what would be awesome? If there was a functionality in JavLuv to make screenshots of clips to add to the metadata.

What could potentially work against this is the technical implementation and making JavLuv to complex or intimidating to use if you're not already very familiar with it. I love how easy to use and robust it is right now.

Oddly enough, JavLuv actually supports storing preview/thumbnail images. I just never figured out how I should display it.

Howdy TmpGuy. Here's a little issue I've run into. The thing about it is that once you've done the process I'm about to describe you wouldn't have to do it again or at least not very often so to integrate the commands into the software may be more trouble than its worth. That said, After scanning perhaps 20K files there are about 200 files that have no cover/nfo data and they come up as a blank image in Javluv. I've decided that a convenient way to deal with these videos is to isolate them, move them to a particular folder , and then I can try and identify errors in file names or find data/covers on sites that Javluv doesn't scrape. Doing this within JavLuv is a highly convoluted process, you can import cover data and manually enter data but it is a cumbersome process and I feel like if I could move all of those files elsewhere and attend to them piecemeal. Problem with that idea is that without cover data you cannot move the files, especially if you want to move them en-masse. I thought I would be clever and select all of the offending files and them import a cover for all of them at one time, just a generic cover to satisfy that requirement to do the move en-mass. No dice, I would have to go though the process of importing a cover for each title and then moving. Now, after my typically long message (sorry) Is there a better way to accomplish this and I'm just too dense to figure it out or is the only option to do as I've described when dealing with these dataless titles? Thanks in advance..

I have so much stuff that Javluv ignores, RedHotJam, Caribbean, com, JAVHD, TokyoHot, 1-Pondo, Fc2-..., Older titles, titles that I got on Highporn.net/japanese-bukkake.net, Mis-Named titles with no way to acertain the correct name, and of course 'clips'. I have about 1k clips that I deemed worth keeping. JavLuv ignores all of these and I've learned to isolate them before I do a folder scan.. Don't get me wrong, this is not a shortcoming of JavLuv, but many of these do not have 'cover' images and none of them are listed on main referance sites like Javlibrary. So this is not a shortcoming of Javluv IMO and to a very large extent I see those titles as outliers. That said it would be grand if Javluv could integrate a thumbnail capability, like ezthumb, that would generate a small thumbnail file in the absense of a cover. this , of course, would slow the process so maybe make it an optional feature. Ultimately that is just wishful thinking on my part and I am always extremely grateful for the program as it is. These "extras" would be gravey but definitely not a deal breaker.

It sounds like the main problem is that JavLuv can't move movies unless they have a cover image. I don't see why that should be a requirement. That seems like it should be fairly easy to fix.

Beyond that, I'm not sure if this will immediately help or not, but you can always tell JavLuv not to do anything if it can't find online metadata for a movie by leaving this option unchecked:

Also, I'm aware manually entering movie data is sort of clumsy right now (including importing a cover image), and hope I can improve that at some point. If you've got specific ideas about how to improve that, let me know. For cover images, I need to allow importing from the detail page, and I need to get copy / pasting images working properly.
