Hey anyone found more open depository from SLF or SHT or any? Runbkk is still the best source for me, but he's gotten less best in past year. E.g. I haven't found any soft subs for recent Das! (DASD-) titles.
In other news, as I've been put in isolation camp
I have spent some time pluning and cleaning my collection of soft subs. E.g. further deleting 2100+ files due to duplications (many are byte-by-byte copies, others are same subtitles in different formats SRT/VTT/ASS etc) but there remains still some duplicates that I'm still too lazy to weed out, e.g. tiny offset in timing, simplified vs traditional Chinese. Oh yeah... most of the soft-sub files are Chinese. I've finally written a little program to detect Korean in subtitle files. So I've isolated the Korean files (now standing at 1330+ files). So if anyone want to do something with a (small?) cache of KR subs, you can PM me. In terms of programming it's fun little exercise, I scanned a few hundred Korean SRT files and extracted the 60 most common Korean words and test a file is Korean if those 60 words account for more than 3% of the file (in fact, I found those 60 words account for over 25% of any piece of Korean text with very very high probability).
It's a long and tedious effort and very minimal reward. The filenames are a huge mess (this is pretty much 100% fixed) , many files are incorrectly formatted, and older files were encoded with GBK, Big5 etc, these I've been correcting by hand when found.
There are still some files (140+ files) with mystery encoding? Could they be Thai?
Luckily with Runbkk and SHT's recent releases (post 2020-ish) all these issues were fixed, filenames are sensible, encoding is UTF-8, formats are 100% compliant.

I do believe the other encoding could be Thai , I remember my first subtitling was a Thai language of Rocket 402(RCT-402) It was a good sub but I never finish the very last scene. Thai was hard to encode with the translators I had.
I ran across one Korean sub and I stopped. It was too weird for me. In your Korean subs, how would you rate it with Chinese subs? Just curious.
I guess for DASD titles, you can borrow the hardcode subs CN from SUPJAV. It's worth a try. Also, can you be kind to let me know if you happen to
see RCTD-399 or Maria Nagai RCTD-332 subs, meanwhile I'm going back to subbing.

So I've collected Korean subs (and Thai) only involuntarily, now I'm seperating them into folders. Maybe I will figure out a use. There are a few vids that I enjoy (early Shion Utsunomiya vids) that lacks any soft subs except Korean. So I think this afternoon, I will try to get Google translate on these for either Korean -> Chinese or Korean -> English. Probably KR -> EN will work better.
I have the impression the Korean general population are much more fluent in Japanese than Chinese population. So there's a chance KR subs are more accurate. Also many Chinese subs adopt a less explicit verbology than the Japanese original, e.g. using "chest" 胸部 for "oppai" when "tits" 奶 would be closer the original tone. Unfortunately Chinese translationg culture tends to localize the tone/atmophere in addition to translating the words and sentence literally. Perhaps KR might also be more accurate? Hard to tell.
I also somewhat worry that Korean being a phonetic language (similar to Japanese, or influenced by Japanese) that a lot of sounds-with-meaning would be Google-teanslated into sounds-without-meaning or worse, completely mis-translated as a wrong-meaning detacted from the original sound. This could be a problem as Shion Utsunomiya (Rara Anzai) is rather poor at articulation.
Well because I'm fluent in Chinese, I can just directly enjoy JAV using Chinese subs. Korean is as good as Russian for me, completely unintelligible. (compare: I can read Japanese at at least a 5-10% level, with a little focus I can even decipher some Katakana)

I follow this guy who posts hardcoded subs, and then i use VideoSubFinder to extract. Again the hard part is always OCR-ing the images or converting it to text. Its a bit of a long process. And then translating is annoying too, but since you can understand chinese, you can skip that process.
Indeed, I ran across a KN sub and google translate did not help much.... but this was a long time ago. I can't remember if i used Deepl but I tried another "KN" translator and it was useless.
So now, I have now decided to sub 2 movies at the same time. hahaha I try to sub the original language as close to possible.

And I have to say I'm pretty happy with the result. No it's not perfect Japanese pronouns are always ambiguous so one has to watch the scene, figure out who was saying something to whom and who was doing something to whom to get the pronouns right. Nothing new there. Also Asami-san got translated as Mr. Asami instead of Miss Asami. Standard error, and fixable.
The process is exactly the same one I offer in this thread(?) almost 2 years ago. Takes about 2 minutes per vid. Attached: DV-1364 Yuma Asami (2012) and SNIS-009 Shion Utsunomiya (Rara Anzai) 2013 in both Chinese and English, Google-translated from Korean sub, no manual correction.

A very weedy question: does papago offer an API for free? Is it possible to submit text to be translated from my Python (or C or anything) program, rather than manually paste text into a browser? It would make KR->EN or KR->CN translation taking 2-5 seconds instead of 2 minutes.
