Like every big JAV fan who doesn't understand the Japanese language, I've been looking for ways to get subtitles for the movies I like. This is how I found out about these forums several years ago and this is also how I found out about Subtitle Edit, a great subtitle editing software that is not only free and easy to use, but also great.
I know some people don't like it because depending on how it's used it can sometimes lead to frustrating results. However, I just found a way that, from my point of view, produces results that serve as a good base for further manual editing that produces quality results in an easy and fun way.
I share the steps that I follow, in case someone finds them useful:
1) Download Subtitle Edit from their website: https://www.nikse.dk/subtitleedit
2) Install and run the application.
3) Choose the option Video/Audio to text (Vosk/Kaldi).
5) Click on the Add... button and choose the video whose subtitles we want to obtain.
7) Click on the Generate button. After a while (usually less than an hour on medium computers), the SRT file of the video with Japanese subtitles will appear in the same folder the video is in.
8) Drag the SRT file onto the Chrome window.
9) Right click on the Chrome window and choose the option Translate to english (or the desired language).
10) Copy the translation and paste it into the SRT file (so that it replaces the previous text).
With this we have the subtitles ready in a low to medium quality, but everything will be ready to manually edit and bring the subtitles to the desired quality.
I hope this helps more than one.

Yes, I use Google to try to catch some lines that way too. Often it just reminds me how bad the audio quality can be on some JAVs!

I don't remember having to indicate the original language, I think it has automatic language detection. What does happen is that the first time this Subtitle Edit option is used, some files will be downloaded automatically.
I have tried the Video/Audio to text (Whisper) option. There it does ask for the language, but I have not been able to obtain minimally acceptable results.
With the option Video/Audio to text (Vosk/Kaladi) I have obtained, as I said before, results between bad and medium (I suppose depending on the original audio). It seems little, but I feel that the SRT obtained is a "good" starting point to create good subtitles, because we already have some correct or approximate sentences (between 10% and 50%) and, above all, the timing guidelines where it is spoken, to only replace the erroneous text with what the context of the story suggests.
Since November 22, with ChatGPT, we are living in the AI era, I think that the quality of audio to text conversions will improve substantially in the coming months. Perhaps by the end of this year we will already be talking about fully satisfactory detections that require a minimum of editing.
I remember now. In the window that appears when you choose the option Video/Audio to text (Vosk/Kaladi), the option "Choose language" appears, you must click on the three dots and choose "Japanese large 1GB". Here are 26 Whisper Edits for the Slave Color series. This is the first 20 entries + the first three Teacher and first three Fiance entries. This is usually considered the Golden Age of the series, featuring lots of crossovers between casts. I think #10 is the best in the franchise, and JavLibrary agrees, with an absurd 9.3 rating.

These are timed based on the movies not being split. The Megapack Torrent had them split with A/B/C/D, so you will need to combine them into one with MKVToolNix.

In your experience, does it mean that vosk/kaladi is better than whisper?
Can you post some comparison of the two using the same file.
If ever, I want to also consider using vosk/kaladi because so far i use three software in creating a subtitle which are whisper, capcut, and pytranscriber.

I think animaker works similar with capcut. But I don't know which software is better in transcription. I use capcut too in making my subtitles for cross checking.
Edit: Just found out that if you are just using the free version of animaker then you can't download the subtitle srt file. Or do you have an alternative workaround? Or are you using paid version of animaker?

What I can say is that my attempts to use Whisper (both within Subtitle Edit and outside of it) were unsuccessful (possibly my fault), while with Vosk/Kaladi I have managed to easily get subtitles which help me enjoy more the movies, both because I can understand them better, and because the SRT serves as the basis for making improvements (also a very pleasant process).In your experience, does it mean that vosk/kaladi is better than whisper?

In summary, maybe Whisper is better than Vosk/Kaladi, but in my case I couldn't with the first one, but I could with the second one.
It's always good to try people different methods because the more the merrier, right?
I guess I will try it on a easy sub and tell my experience.And yes, anything as a basis is perfectly fine imo
Hey guys, shout out to slemx for sharing the program. Here's the first 2 tests of mine. I've noticed its not super accurate but at times has pretty decent dialog output. NHDTA-988 and DOCP-043. I'll run more tests later.
